Chapter 462

Alexander looked at her. "Familiar how?"

Evelyn gently touched her chin, tilting her head. "The jade pendant Jason gave Jane that day. It looks a lot like this one."

She suddenly looked up at Alexander. "How old is Jane?"

He paused. "I'm not sure."

"I think the age might match up," Evelyn said quickly. "I'll go ask Jane!"

The car pulled into the hospital.

Alexander dropped Evelyn off at the entrance and went to park.

Evelyn hurried upstairs.

Before she even entered the room, she heard John's voice. "Jane, don't stop me. A few kowtows are nothing. I can't let him ruin your job prospects!"

Evelyn pushed the door open.

Jane was desperately pulling at John, signing rapidly. "Brother, you don't need to do this. Please get up!"

John shook his head. "Don't worry about me. Let him vent his anger. Only then can we have a peaceful life. You worked so hard. Before the college entrance exams, you only slept five hours a night. You used ginger to stay awake. You even dripped menthol into your eyes..."

John's voice choked up. "Just because you can't speak, you had to work twice as hard as anyone else. The same university required so much more from you. Others found college relaxing, but you never stopped pushing. Perfect scores in all your major classes... All that effort just for a chance at an internship. And I, your brother, am such a failure!"

Jane waved her hands frantically, signing with urgency. "Brother, I have never resented you. I never found it tiring or hard..."

John gripped her hands. "I know you don't find it hard. I know you don't find it tiring. But I can't be a burden to you! I haven't given you a good life. I haven't cured your voice... And now I can't let myself hold you back. Don't stop me. As long as Jason vents his anger and doesn't make things difficult for you, I'll do anything he asks!"

John, his eyes red, looked at Jason. "Tell me. What do you want me to do?"

Jason lay on the hospital bed, watching them with a smirk. "Now you know to beg for mercy? If you had listened earlier, we wouldn't be here! But it's too late now! Even if you get on your knees and lick my feet, lick my piss, I won't let you off! Unless..."

John asked urgently, "Unless what?"

Jason glanced at his crotch. "Unless you castrate yourself. Become a eunuch like me! Otherwise, I will slowly torture you both. I'll make you truly understand what a hard life is!"

He smirked at Jane. "Your sister has already had a taste, hasn't she? How does it feel to have nowhere to do your internship?"

Jane clenched her fists, staring at him fiercely.

Jason spoke again. "Oh, right. That post on the campus network about the resume... That was me who exposed it... Jane, you have some nerve. How dare you send a resume to the Nora Research Institute? What gave you the audacity?"

Jane signed. "Why shouldn't I? I was just trying. There's no shame in being rejected! I just wanted to seize one more opportunity!"

Jason sneered. "What are you waving about? I can't understand it. I don't want to. The Nora Research Institute would never want someone like you! No hospital in New York will take you! Just give up! Accept your fate with your brother and endure the torture... Oh, want a job? My family needs a maid. Interested?"

Jane stared at him with rage.

John said, "Don't trouble my sister. I'll do it! Let me do it, okay?"

Jason spat and laughed derisively. "You? What would I want with you? You're worthless. If it weren't for you, I would have gotten Grace long ago. We'd have children by now. I never would have touched your sister!"

He looked at Jane again. "Lowlives like you belong in the gutter! I will make sure you never become a doctor! All that knowledge you worked for will go to waste! Hahaha!"

As Jason ranted wildly, Evelyn's voice came from the doorway. "Who says she won't become a doctor?!"
