Chapter 467
Jane Evans stared at her phone screen.
Messages kept popping up one after another.
She knew very well.
These people weren't genuinely concerned about her.
They were just here for the spectacle.
The discussion in the class group chat grew increasingly heated.
[I heard Jane Evans interviewed at the Nora Research Institute? True or false?]
[It must be fake! How could a mute get into Nora?]
[The Nora Research Institute's standards are so high. Is she even qualified?]
Someone directly tagged her.
[Jane Evans, did you really go for the interview? Don't tell me you got scammed?]
A string of laughing emojis followed.
Jane Evans didn't reply.
She was still in a daze.
Her experience in the HR department felt like a dream.
A monthly salary of eight thousand…
Was this really an intern's pay?
She was actually accepted…
It was unbelievable!
Her phone suddenly vibrated intensely.
Someone shared a news article in the group.
[Nora Research Institute Makes an Exception to Enroll a Current University Student. The Student Has Excellent Grades and is Consistently Ranked First in Their Major.]
The group exploded instantly.
[That's Jane Evans, isn't it?! She's always first every year!]
[Oh my god! Nora actually accepted her?!]
[So jealous! What incredible luck!]
[Nora only hired PhDs in previous years. Why would they want her this year? It couldn't be because she's disabled, could it?]
[What do you mean?]
[Big corporations have hiring quotas for disabled people. Nora is probably just using her to fill a number!]
[Makes sense! Otherwise, why would they accept a mute?]
[I've been lurking, but I can't stay silent anymore! What's wrong with Jane Evans? Aside from not being able to speak, how is she worse than any of you? You're just jealous!]
[Exactly! If Jane Evans hadn't offended someone, she would have found a job long ago! She works so hard; it's normal for her to get recognition!]
[Even if Nora accepted her just to meet a quota, I believe she can do well!]
[If you have nothing nice to say, shut up!]
…
Jane Evans looked at the classmates speaking up for her. Her eyes felt slightly warm.
She turned back to look at the main entrance of the Nora Research Institute.
Suddenly, she understood something.
Even if Nora accepted her solely because she was disabled.
So what?
She would never let such a great opportunity slip away!
She had known since childhood that opportunity only favors the prepared.
She looked at Justin Evansan and signed: "Brother, we're not leaving! I'm going to work hard to stay!"
Justin Evansan nodded excitedly: "Okay!"
He immediately took out his phone: "I'll tell Evelyn. She'll be so happy!"
…
Evelyn Ross was sitting in the living room when she received the text.
She simply replied "Congratulations" and put her phone down.
Ethan Valentine sat across from her.
She rubbed her temples. "I won't get involved in Mina's matters."
Ethan made a pained face. "Big Brother is hospitalized with a fever. His health will collapse if this continues. Little Sister, please help him!"
Evelyn shook her head. "When he drugged Mina, did he consider whether she would collapse?"
Ethan was speechless.
Kiki Cortez pushed him aside. "First Senior Sister is right!"
Ethan sighed. "I just can't bear to see Big Brother suffering so much…"
He rested his chin on his hand. "Is there really no chance for Big Brother and Sister-in-Law?"
Evelyn said calmly, "This is Mina's own business. I can't force her to forgive him just because he's Big Brother. That wouldn't be fair to Mina."
Ethan nodded reluctantly. "Alright."
He looked at Evelyn again. "The company has been very busy lately. Third Uncle has to deal with those troublesome old employees every day. And now Big Brother is sick…"
A nanny suddenly walked in. "Ma'am, there's a lady outside who claims to be your Second Aunt."
Evelyn was slightly taken aback.
She remembered meeting this Second Aunt at the Family Reunion Gala.
She nodded.
Ethan asked curiously, "What is Second Aunt doing here?"
A servant led a middle-aged woman inside.
The woman looked directly at Evelyn as she entered. "Evelyn, do you know the Xu Group is confronting the Evans family because of you?"
Evelyn nodded. "I know."
Second Aunt's face turned cold. "Then do you know how much pressure your father is under at the company? The shareholders all oppose making an enemy of the Evans family over personal grievances. Yet your father insists on his own course, bearing all the opposition for your sake. He's working so hard, and you're just sitting here watching?"
Second Aunt's tone intensified. "The Xu family is a publicly listed company, not your father's personal enterprise! The incident with your Big Brother and Sister-in-Law already affected the stock price. Fortunately, your Big Brother remedied it in time. Now, if this matter gets out, it will damage the company's reputation again!"
She stared at Evelyn. "If you are sensible and considerate of your elders, you will come with me to the Evans family now to apologize and settle this matter."
