Chapter 471
Justin Evans couldn't be bothered to explain.
He looked down at Jane with disdain. "Want to know why?"
He scoffed. "You're not worthy!"
Justin Evans turned and got into the car.
The door slammed shut.
He sat in the passenger seat. "Drive."
The engine started.
Evelyn Ross and John Evans rushed to the scene.
They searched anxiously for Jane.
They hurried through the market.
But missed Justin Evans's car by seconds.
Inside the vehicle, Jane struggled desperately.
She tried to bang on the window.
She tried to get someone's attention.
A bodyguard pinned her arms down.
He slapped her hard across the face.
"Keep struggling and I'll beat you to death!"
Jane's vision went dark.
She collapsed weakly into the seat.
Justin Evans laughed coldly.
The car sped away.
Evelyn and John reached the vegetable stall.
Vegetables lay scattered on the ground.
Jane's basket sat alone and abandoned.
John picked up the basket.
His voice trembled. "Where's the girl who sells vegetables?"
A passerby whispered, "Some people grabbed her and took her in a car."
John's legs went weak.
He grabbed Evelyn's arm. "Evelyn, we have to save Jane!"
Evelyn scanned the area.
She asked calmly, "What did the people who took her look like?"
"Well-dressed. She wasn't hurt."
Evelyn immediately concluded, "It was Justin Evans."
She pulled John along. "They're going to the hospital."
They rushed out of the market.
Evelyn regretted not driving.
She flagged down a taxi.
John was sweating with anxiety. "What will they do to Jane?"
Evelyn gripped her phone tightly. "I'll contact Mrs. Evans."
She dialed the number.
The phone rang and rang. No one answered.
...
On the hospital rooftop.
Mrs. Evans sat across from Jason.
Her eyes were desperate. "Have you really found Belle?"
Jason's expression was dark.
He stared at Mrs. Evans. "Help me deal with this person."
His voice was icy. "Then I'll tell you where your daughter is."
Jason clenched his fists.
The taunts on the Campus Network stung.
—The second branch is just incompetent!
—Nora Research Institute really showed them, huh?
—Bullied Jane? Now they're getting what they deserved!
Every comment felt like a whip.
It lashed at Jason, twisting his features.
Why could Jane get into Nora?
He would make everyone see.
The consequences of crossing him!
Jason glanced toward the entrance.
Justin Evans should be back soon.
He wanted to torture Jane himself.
There was a stand-in to take the fall anyway.
If she died, someone else would clean up the mess.
Mrs. Evans's phone rang.
She saw Evelyn's name.
Remembering the cold shoulder she received earlier.
She hung up immediately.
It was too late for apologies now.
The rooftop door swung open.
Justin Evans strode in.
A bodyguard dragged Jane.
She was thrown roughly to the ground.
A red handprint marked Jane's face.
She scrambled up, trying to escape.
The bodyguard blocked her path.
Justin Evans smiled. "Trying to leave?"
Jane nodded frantically.
Justin Evans pointed to the edge of the roof. "Jump from there."
His smile turned cruel. "No one will stop you."
