Chapter 484
Evelyn Ross was about to speak to Eleanor Vance.
But the line suddenly went dead.
She paused, slightly startled.
She realized Eleanor had hung up on her.
Evelyn Ross: "..."
Alexander Vance shook his head helplessly. "Grandmother only acknowledges you as her granddaughter-in-law."
Evelyn sighed softly.
Alexander did not call back.
Discussing these matters over the phone was too risky.
If the phone was tapped, Evelyn's identity could be exposed.
She was still using her sister's identity to rescue their mother.
Alexander would never reveal her outside.
Evelyn spoke. "Let's visit Grandmother another day."
"Not another day." Alexander lowered his gaze. "The Vance family is hosting a gala in two days."
"It's our first formal appearance since arriving in New York."
"The family attaches great importance to it."
"Invitations have been sent to all the major families."
"As my fiancée, you must attend."
Evelyn looked at him. "A Vance family gala? Under what pretext?"
Alexander's expression stiffened slightly.
He coughed and turned to look away.
Suddenly, he turned his back to her. "No particular pretext. Just a regular gala."
It was actually being held for his birthday!
But this woman didn't care about him at all.
She probably didn't even remember his birthday!
Alexander felt a pang of irritation.
He understood she was under immense pressure lately.
She carried heavy responsibilities.
But not remembering was simply not remembering...
He knew he shouldn't be upset over such a small thing.
Yet, he couldn't help it.
Seeing him turn away, Evelyn didn't think much of it.
She lay down and said softly, "A gala without a pretext... Fine. Let's sleep early."
Then, she fell silent.
Alexander: ??
He slowly turned around.
He found Evelyn was already asleep.
Her face was buried deep in the pillow, her long hair splayed out.
With her eyes closed, she looked exceptionally docile.
The red teardrop mole at the corner of her eye revealed an innocent yet alluring charm.
Alexander was utterly captivated.
He watched her quietly, finally sighing in resignation before closing his eyes to sleep.
That night, his sleep was light.
He even dreamed that Evelyn took him shopping.
She said she was buying clothes for Chloe Davis.
But once they reached the mall, she suddenly handed him a gift.
"Here. Happy Birthday."
In the dream, Alexander was deeply moved, smiling continuously.
Unfortunately, when the morning sun shone in, he woke up faintly.
He realized it was just a beautiful dream.
He lay quietly, staring at the ceiling.
He turned to look at the woman still deep in sleep.
Suddenly, he smiled with acceptance.
Evelyn had been so busy lately.
Her mind was completely occupied with completing the Nan family's tasks and rescuing her mother, Sophia Ashcroft.
How could she possibly remember his birthday?
He was asking for too much.
How could he be angry with her over such a trivial matter?
The man who had been sulking all night managed to console himself.
...
After breakfast.
Evelyn suddenly spoke. "The collaboration with the Evans family is complete."
"We're just waiting for feedback after signing."
"Instead of waiting idly at home, why don't we go shopping?"
Alexander's pupils lit up slightly.
He looked up sharply at Evelyn.
But her calm face revealed nothing.
Did she remember?
Or did she just want to go shopping?
Alexander coughed. "Shopping for what?"
Evelyn replied, "Not necessarily for anything specific. Just browsing."
So it was just casual browsing!
Alexander smiled. "Alright!"
After breakfast, they asked the nanny to look after Chloe Davis.
They told Mina Sherwood to rest well.
Then, they left.
Marcus Valentine was not at the door.
But when leaving the residential area, Evelyn vaguely saw Marcus's car again.
It was hidden in an inconspicuous corner.
The windows were tinted with anti-peep film.
It was impossible to see if anyone was inside.
Evelyn asked, "Has big brother's fever subsided?"
Marcus had stood in the rain all night and developed a fever that afternoon.
Ethan Valentine had come to see her about it.
Alexander said, "It broke last night."
He also glanced at Marcus's car.
He wondered if Mina would eventually forgive Marcus.
Lost in thought, they arrived at the mall.
It was New York's largest luxury mall, located within the Third Ring Road.
The underground parking lot was filled with luxury cars.
After parking, they went upstairs together.
Alexander kept observing Evelyn.
He tried to discern from her words and actions if she remembered his birthday was the day after tomorrow.
Unfortunately, she seemed bored while shopping.
There was no special reaction.
Alexander simply stopped guessing.
He would wait quietly for the final surprise.
Evelyn shopped without any purpose.
She entered any store that caught her interest.
After a full round, she only bought two hair clips for Chloe Davis.
She didn't find anything she wanted for herself.
They wandered into a Cartier boutique...
There should be suitable accessories for him here, like cufflinks...
Just as Alexander was thinking this, he saw Evelyn casually browse the store.
Finding it boring, she was about to leave.
Alexander: ?
He immediately pulled Evelyn back. "...Nothing caught your eye?"
"All jewelry. I looked around, didn't see anything I liked."
Evelyn replied, "I don't usually like wearing jewelry. It's troublesome."
Alexander: ??
So Evelyn really had no intention of buying anything for him?
Her shopping trip today was genuinely just for shopping!
Alexander's mouth twitched.
He looked unwilling.
Just as he was about to say something, a voice interrupted.
"Bring all the jewelry suitable for young women here."
"Every style, this size. I want one of each!"
Evelyn turned and saw Justin Evans shopping with the manager.
His hands were empty.
After saying this, he directly handed over his bank card.
"Pack them all and deliver them to my home."
The manager was delighted but still asked, "Young Master Evans, which lady is this for?"
"Has she bought our new collection this year? To avoid duplicates."
Justin said, "It's for my sister! She doesn't have much jewelry. There won't be duplicates."
The manager was pleasantly surprised. "You found your sister?"
Justin immediately nodded.
The usually arrogant man now seemed somewhat nervous.
"Manager, help me see. Will my sister like these?"
The manager immediately said, "Young women definitely love jewelry."
Justin nodded. "Right, she'll definitely like them."
"Alright, pack these up."
"I'll go upstairs to pick some clothes for her."
Justin turned and saw Evelyn and Alexander.
Meeting Alexander's solemn face, Justin recalled the pain of being dominated by him.
His expression immediately changed.
"Miss Ross, you're out shopping with your boy toy?"
Evelyn raised an eyebrow.
Alexander didn't speak, just looked at him.
Under his gaze, Justin coughed.
He stepped forward.
"Miss Ross, since you saved my sister, I'll give you some advice."
"Break up with this boy toy quickly!"
Evelyn asked, "Why?"
Justin sneered. "Aren't you engaged to the Vance family?"
"This boy toy might be tough, but how could he be a match for Alexander Vance!"
"You're just having fun with him, right?"
"You should break up quickly to avoid embarrassing the Vance family..."
Before he finished, Evelyn chuckled.
"Then do you know what his name is?"
