Chapter 493
But someone else got there first... After my sister came home, she probably couldn't stand me..."
Robert's fury ignited.
He said to his driver, "Have the Valentines arrived? I want to see Mr. William Valentine. I'll ask him how he raised his daughter! How dare she keep a boy toy on the side? She doesn't take the Vance family seriously at all!"
The driver helped support the old man. "I'll go check. The gala is about to start. The Valentines should be here soon."
Penelope took the opportunity to hold Robert's other arm. "Uncle, let me accompany you inside."
Robert nodded with satisfaction. "Good."
The three of them entered the banquet hall.
The hall was filled with guests.
Glasses clinked amidst lively conversation.
Eleanor Vance was resting upstairs due to her illness and did not attend.
Robert scanned the room. "Where are the Valentines? Haven't they arrived yet?"
Richard Evans was entertaining guests with Julian.
He looked toward the entrance upon hearing this. "They should be here soon. Julian, go check."
Julian replied flatly, "They're probably here. The butler can receive them."
Richard's eyes flickered.
Alexander relied on the Valentines' support.
It made it even harder for the main branch to gain an advantage.
With Alexander absent, slighting the Valentines might ruin this engagement.
He smiled at Robert. "Father, you just sat down to rest. I'll have the butler receive them."
…
Outside the banquet hall.
Time ticked by.
The Valentines' expressions grew darker.
Ethan Valentine turned abruptly. "Let's go! If we're not welcome, why stay here and be humiliated?"
Charles Valentine fumed. "Exactly. Is this any way to treat in-laws?"
Whispers circulated among the surrounding guests.
Their gazes were full of curiosity.
Though the words were indistinct, the Valentines understood what was being discussed.
The butler finally appeared. "Ah, Mr. William Valentine! Young masters and misses! My deepest apologies! The master is entertaining very important guests. He sent me to receive you! My apologies for the delay!"
This statement ignited the Valentines' anger.
What guest inside could be more important than the Valentines?
This was clearly a deliberate snub from the Vances!
"Let's go!"
