Chapter 541
Evelyn didn't catch what she said and asked again.
The young Sterlingny immediately averted her gaze. "N-nothing..."
She stole another glance at Preston.
Years ago, while delivering takeout along a highway, she had witnessed a car crash through the guardrail and tumble down a steep embankment. Without a second thought, she had thrown down her scooter and rushed over.
The car was already mangled, gasoline leaking everywhere. The man in the driver's seat was covered in blood and unconscious. She used all her strength to drag him out. She had just stumbled away a few dozen meters when a deafening explosion erupted behind her.
The blast wave nearly knocked her over.
Later, she called for an ambulance. But because her delivery was about to be late, she had to leave in a hurry. When she returned after finishing the delivery, only charred wreckage remained at the scene. She heard the injured man had been taken to the hospital.
She didn't inquire further.
But even if this gentleman before her was that man from back then, it didn't really matter...
As the Sterlingny was lost in thought, an impatient shout came from the kitchen. "Joanna! Slacking off again?"
Joanna quickly responded, "Coming, coming!"
She turned and ran into the kitchen.
Evelyn, however, frowned slightly.
Joanna?
This Sterlingny had the character 'Sterling' in her name...
Was it a coincidence, or...
Evelyn pursed her lips and walked over to the butler nearby. "That Joanna, what's her background?"
The butler answered respectfully, "She is a Sterlingny who underwent formal training. I heard she dropped out of high school and delivered takeout for a while. Later, she applied here. She trained for three months before starting. Miss, is there something she did poorly? Should we let her go?"
Evelyn shook her head. "No, just asking casually. What's her real name? Is her surname Sterling?"
Butler: "Her surname isn't Sterling. It's Qiao. Her name is Qiao Sterling."
So, she just had the character 'Sterling' in her name.
Evelyn nodded and returned to the dining room.
Natalie was saying righteously, "My intuition is never wrong! She is definitely targeting my future sister-in-law!"
As soon as the words left her mouth, she clapped a hand over it.
Everyone at the table looked at her.
Ethan raised an eyebrow. "What sister-in-law?"
Natalie's dark, lively eyes darted toward Anthony. She gave a dry laugh. "N-nothing..."
Charles, however, wouldn't let it go. "There's definitely something! Spill it!"
Natalie looked up at the ceiling and coughed. "Well... my brother likes her, so he wants her to be my sister-in-law."
Anthony immediately scolded her. "Nonsense!"
Alexander's expression instantly darkened.
Anthony hurriedly explained. "Miss Ross is already engaged."
Natalie blinked. "Are they married yet?"
"Not yet."
"Then you still have a chance!"
Everyone: "..."
A wave of amused gazes swept toward Alexander.
Alexander's eyes turned icy as he looked at Anthony.
Anthony cleared his throat awkwardly. "Mr. Vance, please don't misunderstand. While I admire Miss Ross, I also understand the concept of stepping aside for others. It's just that my grandfather is pressuring me too much, so I used Miss Ross's name as an excuse..."
Natalie immediately exposed him. "Yeah, right~"
Anthony shot her a warning glare. Natalie finally shut up.
Alexander, however, pressed on. "What excuse?"
Anthony glanced at Evelyn, the tips of his ears turning slightly red. "I said I had someone I liked... My grandfather pressed me hard, demanding to know who. I don't know many girls here in the States. In a moment of panic, I said Miss Ross's name..."
Natalie chimed in. "Right, a moment of panic~ Not your true feelings at all~"
Anthony glared at her again.
Natalie stuck out her tongue and turned her head away.
Her playful demeanor made Charles steal several glances, his cheeks flushing.
How could there be such an adorable girl in the world!
The key was, she got along so well with his sister Evelyn, unlike that Susan, who was always picking fights.
If he could pursue her...
Charles thought about it, and his face grew even redder.
Natalie suddenly leaned closer. "Huh? My brother isn't even blushing. Why is your face so red?"
Charles hurriedly covered his face. "Is it? Maybe... it's from eating something spicy just now!"
Natalie looked puzzled. "Spicy? I love spicy food the most, but there weren't any spicy dishes on the table just now..."
Charles quickly changed the subject. "What's your favorite food?"
"Kung Pao chicken! The American-style Kung Pao chicken!"
"I know a place that makes it really authentically. Want to go try it?"
Natalie's eyes instantly lit up. "Really? When will you take me?"
Charles glanced toward the kitchen. "Their cooking will take about another hour. How about... we go now?"
Natalie nodded eagerly. "Okay, okay!"
The two of them decided to leave right away. At the door, Natalie suddenly remembered something. She turned back and called out to Anthony. "Brother! You better think of a good plan! Otherwise, Grandpa will really force you to marry Cousin! Maybe you should ask Miss Ross if she's willing to help you? In the entire States, only Miss Ross's status could make Grandpa shut up, right?"
Anthony waved his hand angrily. "Just go already!"
Natalie giggled and pulled Charles away.
Evelyn watched her cheerful retreating back, lost in thought.
Could such a food-loving, lively girl really be "The Fox"?
As she pondered, Alexander suddenly spoke. "Your sister mentioned a cousin. What's her surname?"
Anthony immediately explained. "Mr. Vance, please don't misunderstand. While I admire Miss Ross, I also respect that she's with someone. It's just that my grandfather's pressure was too much, so I borrowed Miss Ross's name..."
As he spoke, he gave Evelyn a deep look. A flicker of emotion passed through his eyes but was quickly concealed.
Alexander lowered his gaze, his tone flat. "I'm not misunderstanding. I just wanted to ask if the cousin she mentioned has the surname Sterling."
"How did you know?"
Anthony said in surprise. "Did you guess because Natalie has 'Sterling' in her name? Natalie's mother is indeed from the Sterling Family. So her cousin is also surnamed Sterling. Her name is Nicole Sterling."
Evelyn froze in disbelief.
She looked at Anthony incredulously. "You said your cousin... is named Nicole Sterling?"
"Yes."
Anthony nodded slowly. "Is there a problem with that name?"
Evelyn smiled. "No problem. I just didn't expect..."
She looked at Alexander.
A faint smile also curled at the corner of Alexander's lips. "Sometimes you search high and low for something, only to find it effortlessly."
A woman surnamed Sterling who wants to marry Anthony...
This person was, in all likelihood, the "Fox" they were looking for!
Evelyn suddenly looked at Anthony. "I wonder if there's a chance to meet this cousin of yours?"
