Chapter 562

Spencer Valentine rushed over.

Natalie Castillo was right beside him.

Both wore expressions of fury.

They looked utterly naive.

Evelyn Ross exchanged a glance with Alexander Vance.

They both sighed in resignation.

They stood up and walked over.

Seeing this, the man grew bolder.

He pointed at Natalie and warned, "I'm disciplining my own wife, what's it to you? I'm warning you, mind your own business!"

The woman he had hit lifted her head.

She looked pitifully at Natalie.

She whispered, "Honey, please stop hitting me. Let's talk this out."

"Haven't I been talking to you?"

The man finished speaking and slapped the woman again.

The woman's head snapped to the side.

Her cheek immediately swelled.

Tears streamed down her face. "Please don't hit me…"

Natalie spoke directly. "Ma'am, do you need me to call the police for you?"

Before the woman could answer.

The man angrily jabbed a finger at Natalie. "Who asked you to meddle? You must have too much time on your hands! Get lost!"

Natalie immediately retorted. "It's wrong to hit a woman in public! Even if you're married, hitting her is domestic violence! That's illegal! Don't you believe I'll call the police right now?"

As she said this, she took out her phone.

Just as she was about to dial.

The man swung his arm.

He slapped Natalie's phone out of her hand.

Then he shoved Natalie hard. "You dare call the cops? I'll beat you to death!"

Natalie stumbled back two steps from the push.

She nearly lost her balance.

Spencer immediately steadied her.

He then glared angrily at the man. "We can talk this through properly. How can you resort to violence?"

"So what if I use force? Young man, I advise you to stay out of this!"

The man glared viciously at Natalie.

He said to Spencer, "Is this your girlfriend? Hah, is she so free because you're not man enough? Women need to be taught a lesson, to know a man's strength! You look like a pretty boy who can't even control a woman. What a loser!"

Natalie was furious.

She stepped forward. "What nonsense are you spouting?"

The man shoved Natalie again. "So what if I talk about you? I'm disciplining my own woman, what's it to you? Trying to play the hero? You should know your place…"

He then looked Natalie up and down. "But you're not bad looking. What? If you call me 'big brother' nicely, I might let you off…"

Hearing this.

Spencer could no longer hold back.

He lunged forward.

His fist connected hard with the man's face.

The man instantly flew into a rage.

He jumped up, ready to hit Spencer back.

The next moment.

Evelyn caught his wrist.

With just a slight exertion.

She pushed the man back several steps.

Spencer immediately pounced on him.

He started punching him!

Restaurant staff rushed over.

They tried to pull them apart. "Customers, please stop! Stop fighting!"

The manager quickly called the police.

Half an hour later.

The group was sitting in a holding cell at the police station.

Natalie looked at the bruises on Spencer's face.

She couldn't help but speak. "That man is simply outrageous! Does it hurt?"

Then she looked at Evelyn. "I'm sorry for dragging you into this."

Evelyn shook her head helplessly.

Natalie spoke again. "But I don't think I was wrong! At least we saved that woman today. Otherwise, she would have been beaten by her husband! I hope she gets a divorce!"

Evelyn spoke up. "She won't divorce him. That's why I tried to stop you from meddling."

Natalie immediately looked at her in shock. "Even after all that, she won't divorce? How is that possible! You're lying, right?"

Evelyn sighed. "A normal woman being hit would instinctively fight back. But she didn't resist at all. That means this isn't the first time she's been beaten."

Natalie frowned. "Even if it's not the first time, she should still fight back! If she doesn't resist, it only makes the abuser more brazen!"

Seeing Natalie still didn't understand.

Evelyn simply stopped talking.

Spencer then said, "Cousin, do you think maybe that woman wants a divorce but is being threatened by the abuser and is too scared to leave?"

Evelyn glanced at him. "There are indeed many women in this world who want to resist but lack the power to do so. But she's not one of them."

Natalie stared with her innocent, wide eyes. "Why do you say that? Maybe this time, we can leave a domestic violence record for that man. Then the woman can get a divorce!"

Evelyn looked at her naive, flawless face.

Then she looked at Spencer.

Another pure, innocent college student.

She just felt a headache coming on.

Having grown up rough on the streets.

She had long been accustomed to this type of person.

So she could tell which women wanted to save themselves and which had resigned to their fate.

If you helped the latter, they might even turn on you…

She had learned this lesson countless times.

But she couldn't bring herself to lecture Natalie.

This young girl had been too sheltered by her family.

Beautiful and kind-hearted.

It was good for her to see the harsh realities of society.

She remained silent.

Spencer spoke up. "No matter what, we did a good deed. Natalie, you were really brave today!"

Natalie smiled.

She didn't say anything.

But she lifted her chin slightly, looking very proud.

Then she glanced at Evelyn. "Evelyn, I think a person shouldn't lose their most important principles."

Just then, someone came for them.

It was Thomas Watson with a lawyer to bail them out.

They all walked out.

A police officer handed over a document. "Sign here, and you can go."

Evelyn and Alexander signed quickly and decisively.

Natalie asked, "What about that couple? Did you record the man's domestic violence file? Did the wife say she wants a divorce?"

Hearing this, the police officer was taken aback.

He didn't answer.

Natalie continued. "Did the wife say she wants to thank us? Officer, you don't need to give her our contact information. We prefer to do good deeds anonymously. It was just a small thing."

The police officer: "…"

The officer coughed.

His expression turned somewhat awkward.

Seeing this, Natalie grew curious. "What's wrong? Did that man abuse his wife again?"

Seeing her persistence, the officer finally couldn't hold back.

He spoke directly. "No, it's like this. The wife testified that you were the ones who started the fight. So we determined you were at fault. Therefore, you are responsible for covering the husband's medical expenses."

Natalie: ??
