Chapter 591
Marcus Valentine froze in place.
"What?"
He was usually steady, but today he had lost his composure repeatedly.
He slowly looked up, disbelief in his eyes as he stared at Mina.
Mina spoke softly. "Yes, twins. They've been checked. It should be a boy and a girl."
Marcus was completely stunned.
After a long moment, he suddenly stood up. He wanted to reach out and touch Mina's abdomen, but didn't dare.
He swallowed hard, asking cautiously, "There are... two in there?"
"Yes."
"Mina, are you truly an angel sent from heaven to save me?"
Marcus rushed excitedly to the door, about to open it and announce the good news, when he saw his Second Uncle and Second Aunt stumble inside.
They had been eavesdropping outside the door.
The living room instantly erupted.
But soon, everyone calmed down.
Second Aunt looked at Mina. "Child, why didn't you say something about such a big matter? You made both Marcus and me misunderstand!"
Mina smiled. "First, I didn't know how to say it. Second, Grace told me to keep it secret for the children's safety."
These words made everyone's expressions change drastically.
Previously, Marcus had been diagnosed with azoospermia, clearly the result of someone's scheme.
Susan had also drugged Marcus, wanting a permanent solution.
If Mina had announced her pregSterlingcy the day she returned home, Susan's target likely wouldn't have been Mina, but Marcus himself.
Second Aunt immediately nodded. "You did the right thing! If a normal couple didn't want Marcus to have children, they should have drugged him directly. Drugging his wife, he could still find someone else to bear his children. But drugging him would cut off that possibility completely."
Second Uncle also agreed. "Then we'll tell everyone you're not pregSterlingt. Let Marcus pretend to be sick. He can deal with the outside matters."
Marcus gave a bitter smile. "I'll be laughed at by the entire social circle."
Second Aunt glared at him. "Is your pride more important, or Mina and the children's safety?"
Marcus fell silent.
Second Aunt supported Mina. "Mina, you must take good care of yourself."
Mina smiled at her. "Mom, I want to eat braised pork ribs tonight. You won't stop me, will you?"
Second Aunt's face flushed. "Of course not! I'll make them for you myself. From now on, I'll handle all your meals. To outsiders, we'll just say we're putting you on a diet."
While the four of them discussed, downstairs in the living room, Evelyn looked at Preston and Joanna. "We must keep the news of Sister-in-law's pregSterlingcy confidential."
Preston and Joanna immediately nodded. "Understood."
Preston then frowned, looking at Susan and her brother. "Little sister, you shouldn't have exposed yourself in front of them..."
"It's fine."
Evelyn slowly crouched down, meeting Susan's gaze directly. "They won't have a chance to pass on any messages."
Preston was taken aback. "What do you mean?"
As soon as he finished speaking, the butler hurried in. "Miss, the officers from the relevant department are here!"
Susan sharply looked at Evelyn. "You called the police? Even if you arrest me, Fox won't let you off! Wait to collect your father's corpse!"
Evelyn lowered her gaze. "Allow me to remind you, this is the United States."
Susan narrowed her eyes. "So?"
"In the United States, everyone must obey the law, including Fox. That's why, when she schemed against Jane's family, she only lured Nathan's mother into action, not daring to kill anyone herself. She didn't dare leave behind murder evidence, because murder means prison. I don't know what the Sterling Family is training me and Fox for, but if she goes to prison, Fox should lose, right?"
Evelyn's words, spoken one by one, caused Susan's pupils to contract sharply.
Evelyn knew she had guessed correctly.
She gave a faint smile. "If killing were allowed, she would have long since eliminated everyone in her way. Why go through all this trouble? Susan, I'll let you and Fox reunite in an American prison cell."
As soon as she finished speaking, two figures appeared at the entrance.
Today, officers from the Special Operations Division's enforcement unit had arrived.
Cases involving international criminals required their handling.
Grace was one of the officers in charge.
Back in San Francisco, after Evelyn's "death," she had been devastated, unable to function in that place of sorrow. Her parents, unable to bear it, had pulled strings to transfer her to New York.
Grace looked at the luxurious mansion before her, her heart numb.
Her best friend was dead.
This thought made her heart go numb.
When the pain became too much, it simply stopped hurting.
The human body protects itself.
As Grace was thinking this, her colleague muttered quietly, "These wealthy families are the most prone to fatalities. Be careful later, don't offend anyone."
Grace didn't respond.
She would only act according to the law.
The two of them entered the Ashcroft living room.
The next second, Grace saw the figure she had thought of day and night, and her entire body froze instantly.
