Chapter 592
Grace Lorenz stared blankly at Evelyn Ross.
Her face was a mask of disbelief and disorientation.
She even wondered if she was hallucinating.
She rubbed her eyes hard and looked again—the person before her was still Evelyn, unchanged!
Grace's eyes grew slightly red.
Evelyn hadn't expected to run into Grace here either.
This little stickler was looking at her now with eyes that seemed on the verge of tears. Evelyn knew she couldn't acknowledge her, yet her heart ached at the thought.
Just as she hesitated, another voice spoke up. "Who reported the incident?"
Evelyn snapped back to attention. "I did."
Grace stared at her intently, her fists clenched. "Name."
"Grace Valentine."
The moment the three words left her lips, Grace's hand trembled slightly. "Evelyn Ross?"
"Grace. As in royal grace."
Grace paused, then recorded it truthfully. Next, the two officers conducted a routine interview with Evelyn. After reviewing the Valentine family's surveillance footage, they confirmed Susan Langley's evidence of attempted murder.
Susan had nothing to say in her defense.
Grace looked at Evelyn. "What was her motive?"
Evelyn frowned slightly. "She was acting under orders."
Grace immediately picked up her pen. "Who?"
"A person called Fox. Real name Nicole Sterling. She's currently with the Castillo family."
Grace pressed further. "Do you have evidence?"
"Yes."
Susan sneered. "What evidence could you possibly have?"
Evelyn looked at her. "I don't have any. But you do."
Susan scoffed. "Even if I did, why would I give it to you?"
Evelyn replied calmly, "Because only by giving it to me can you survive."
Susan froze.
Evelyn spoke directly. "You've been poisoned, haven't you?"
Panic flashed across Susan's face. "How do you know?"
"From the moment Joanna Sterling mentioned calling the police, you've been frantic, desperately objecting. Logically, attempted premeditated murder isn't a capital offense. Yet your panic was like you were facing death. Plus... someone like Fox, why would she trust you for no reason?"
Susan wasn't particularly clever, nor did she have any real skills. Why would such a vain person risk her life for Fox?
Unless Fox had leverage over her, or held her very life in her hands!
Considering Marcus Valentine's altered medical report at the hospital, Fox's apparent influence in the medical system, and the undetectable poisoning of Mr. Valentine...
This Fox was a master of poisons.
Therefore, Evelyn directly deduced that Susan had also been poisoned.
If Fox wanted to control Susan, she wouldn't just administer poison without an antidote. To ensure Susan's obedience at every stage...
The poison likely required periodic doses of the antidote.
From this, Evelyn pieced together the truth!
Listening to Evelyn's words, Susan felt utterly dazed. She never imagined that Evelyn, usually quiet and low-key, could be so sharp, deducing the most critical information from just a few clues!
Susan took a deep breath. "Since you already know, you should understand even better that I can't possibly tell you who Fox is!"
"Wrong. Only by telling us who Fox is can you be saved."
Susan was stunned. "What do you mean?"
Evelyn crouched down in front of her. "Let's make a deal. You provide evidence against Fox, and I'll make sure Fox is placed in the same cell as you. That way, you'll have a chance to get close to her."
Only by getting close to Fox could she obtain the antidote!
Susan's pupils contracted. "Really?"
"Really."
Susan immediately began to hesitate.
Evelyn stood up, looking down at her. "I don't know when your next poisoning episode is due. But if you have time to hesitate, go ahead and think. It makes no difference to me..."
Susan instantly clenched her fists.
She stared fixedly at Evelyn.
Tomorrow was the day the poison would flare up. Her coming here today was also to complete her mission!
Now that she was caught, if she didn't get the antidote tomorrow, she would die!
Panicked, Susan looked directly at Evelyn. "Fine, I'll talk. I have evidence!"
She took out her phone. "I have Fox's contact information! Even though Fox automatically deletes all records from my phone after each contact, I recorded all our chat logs long ago! They're saved in my cloud storage!"
Evelyn's eyes lit up!
With that information, they could charge Nicole Sterling!
Once Nicole was imprisoned, the Castillo family would have to rely on her. Given Anthony Castillo's temperament, he likely wouldn't want to make an enemy of the Valentine family.
Wouldn't that solve the current deadlock?
She took Susan's phone. "Thank you!"
Susan stared at her. "I hope you keep your word! Remember to put Nicole Sterling in the same cell as me!"
Evelyn smiled. "I only said I'd put her in the same cell as you. But I think I forgot to mention one thing."
"What?"
"Before entering the cell, there's a step called a strip search, right? To prevent inmates from bringing in anything they shouldn't..."
