Chapter 624
Marcus Wright was the Deputy Director of the Special Operations Division.
Even though many people were loyal to Elder Benjamin Wright, Marcus's contributions to the Division were undeniable.
As soon as he spoke, everyone present, including Grace, immediately stood at attention.
"Yes!"
The unified shout seemed to make the ceiling tremble.
The two factions that had been at each other's throats moments ago instantly turned in unison.
Dozens of eyes, filled with undisguised anger, fixed on the people from the International Department.
The International Department's representative, who had been watching the drama, was stunned.
He had long been bribed by the Fox.
He was here to take the prisoner, planning to hand Nicole Sterling over to the Fox immediately.
The Fox had assured him that the Special Operations Division would be torn by internal strife, and he could just sit back and watch.
But the show had barely started. How had the two sides suddenly reconciled?
The representative's mind struggled to catch up.
Marcus had already strode up to him.
"Apologies."
Marcus's voice was calm, yet carried an undeniable force.
"You cannot take this prisoner."
"Our Special Operations Division still has an open case."
The International Department representative finally snapped back to reality, his face darkening.
"Wasn't it agreed that all cases would be consolidated and handed over to our International Department?"
Marcus didn't even lift his eyelids.
"Our case cannot be consolidated."
"You say it can't, so it can't?"
The representative was furious, raising his voice.
"She's an international criminal! Your Special Operations Division has no right to obstruct our investigation!"
"Hand her over immediately!"
Marcus spread his hands.
"Apologies, she cannot be given to you at this time."
"If you have an issue, take it up with our superior authorities."
The representative's face turned livid with anger.
He glared at Marcus for a long moment, then suddenly sneered.
"Since you refuse to cooperate..."
"Then we'll do it the old-fashioned way."
Evelyn raised an eyebrow.
A new recruit nearby whispered to a veteran colleague, "What old-fashioned way?"
The veteran lowered his voice.
"Our Special Operations Division is different from other departments."
"Our methods... have a bit of an old-school, underworld flavor."
"When two sides both want a person or an item, they settle it with a duel."
The new recruit was shocked.
"That's allowed?"
The veteran coughed lightly.
"The Lorenz family held a very high status in the international underworld in the past."
"In those days, to secure benefits for our country, they used this method frequently."
"Otherwise, why do you think our Special Operations Division has such a good relationship with the Cortez Sect?"
"We borrowed their people a lot back in the day."
The new recruit understood now.
Evelyn lowered her gaze.
She already knew all this.
Grace had explained it to her in detail.
During the most difficult times, the Lorenz family had relied on this almost barbaric method to forcibly reclaim many things from the international arena.
Now, the other side wanted to use the same method to claim the prisoner.
Marcus narrowed his eyes.
He instinctively raised a hand to touch his chest.
In his younger years, he had trained in martial arts relentlessly.
But age had caught up, and old injuries had never fully healed.
His skills were far from what they used to be.
He glanced at Leo Wright and Ethan Valentine.
These two young men were here. It should be... fine, right?
Marcus took a deep breath.
"Fine."
"Let's do it that way."
As soon as he finished speaking, the International Department representative stepped aside.
He revealed a black-clad bodyguard who had been standing behind him.
The bodyguard had been wearing sunglasses and a mask, his presence barely noticeable.
Now, the representative pointed at him.
"This is our International Department's King."
"He will represent us in today's duel."
The black-clad bodyguard removed his sunglasses and mask.
He cracked his neck, producing a soft pop.
Then, he took off his suit jacket and casually tossed it aside.
Underneath was a tight black tank top.
The bulging muscle lines exuded an explosive sense of power.
The Special Operations Division side erupted in murmurs.
"King? The boxing champion King?!"
"My God! He actually joined the International Department!"
"He's the current number one in the martial arts world! He defeated the previous boxing champion!"
"I heard no one who challenged him has ever won..."
"Deputy Director Wright, this is trouble! Leo Wright and Ethan Valentine are probably no match for him..."
"What about the Cortez Sect's First Senior Sister? Can we ask her to come?"
"Are you dreaming? The First Senior Sister is elusive. How could she possibly be here?"
"Are we really going to just watch them take her away?"
The buzzing of discussion filled the air.
Evelyn, however, suddenly smiled.
The Fox's backup plan...
So this was it.
She lifted her eyes to look at the man called King.
He happened to look over at the same time.
Their eyes met.
King's lips curled into a cruel smile.
