Chapter 636
Evelyn was preoccupied with matters concerning the Valentine family.
She nodded at Mr. Wright.
"Mr. Wright, I have something urgent to attend to. Let's talk another day."
Before he could respond, she had already turned and rushed out.
At the other end of the corridor, Leo Wright had just finished his treatment.
He was being supported by someone, moving slowly.
Seeing Evelyn, his expression stiffened.
He instinctively turned sideways, trying to figure out how to greet her.
But that figure had already run past like a gust of wind.
Leo stood there, stunned.
Alexander's car was already waiting in the parking lot.
Evelyn had just pulled the door open and gotten in when the car started moving.
"What happened?" Alexander asked, steering the wheel.
"The Fox is at the Valentine residence."
Alexander's eyes sharpened.
He pressed the accelerator to the floor.
The car shot forward like an arrow released from its bow.
He kept his eyes on the road ahead, his voice steady.
"Don't panic. The Valentines are the leading family among the five great families of New York. If the Fox truly had the ability to control the entire Valentine family, she would have acted long ago. Why bother trying to win over the other families? Direct force would be much simpler."
Evelyn knew he was right.
But her heart was still in her throat.
The Sterling Family's power was too mysterious.
The Fox was cunning and full of schemes.
They still hadn't managed to capture her...
She took a deep breath, forcing herself to calm down.
"You're right. The Valentine family's security is strong. Nothing will happen."
"Mm."
Alexander held the steering wheel with one hand.
His other hand tightly grasped hers.
"Mr. Valentine will be fine."
The car's speed soared all the way.
It took only twenty minutes from the Special Operations Division to the Valentine residence.
As the car approached the main gate, Evelyn saw the guards at a glance.
They were still the same people.
Her hanging heart immediately settled by half.
The guards hadn't been replaced.
This meant the Valentine family hadn't been taken over entirely.
The car continued inside.
In the courtyard, the servants were cleaning as usual.
The second uncle was practicing Tai Chi in the garden.
Everything was normal.
The Valentine residence was safe.
"Screech—"
The car braked to a stop in front of the villa.
Evelyn jumped out before the car had fully stopped.
She rushed straight into the living room and up to the second floor, to Mr. Valentine's bedroom.
"Bang!"
The door was pushed open.
Mr. Valentine was standing by the window.
He looked refreshed and radiant, as if years of chronic illness had been swept away.
Seeing Evelyn, he was taken aback.
"Evelyn? What are you doing here?"
Evelyn rushed to him, looking him up and down.
"Are you alright?"
"I'm fine." Mr. Valentine saw the worry in his daughter's eyes, and his gaze softened.
He even turned in a circle.
"See? Perfectly fine."
"How do you feel now?"
"Hungry." Mr. Valentine's voice was robust.
"I feel like I could eat an entire cow. By the way, didn't I tell them not to notify you yet? How did you know I woke up?"
After waking up, Mr. Valentine's first order was for his subordinates to keep it confidential for now.
He was afraid there might still be issues with his health, which would worry his daughter even more.
Only after the family doctor completed a full examination and confirmed he was not only fine but also in better physical condition than before did he feel relieved.
He just hadn't had time to tell Evelyn yet.
Hearing this, Evelyn suddenly realized something was off.
The Fox said she was in her home...
But besides them, Mr. Valentine's room was empty.
Evelyn immediately took out her phone and dialed the number back.
The call connected quickly.
"Where are you?" Evelyn asked.
The Fox's electronic voice came through.
"In your living room. The way you just ran past was quite dashing."
The living room...
Evelyn's eyes sharpened.
She immediately made a gesture to Mr. Valentine—enemy.
Mr. Valentine's face darkened, instantly entering a state of alert.
Evelyn slowly walked out of the room.
She observed left and right, heading towards the living room.
Mr. Valentine followed behind her, his steps steady.
If there really was an attacker, the father-daughter duo working together would be enough to handle it.
Evelyn looked down at the living room.
Several servants were busy.
Other than that, there was no one else.
She spoke into the phone.
"I'm in the living room. Where are you?"
"I'm right here!"
"I'm right here!"
A voice came from the direction of the bay window.
It overlapped with the electronic voice from the phone.
Evelyn whipped her head around.
By the bay window, a familiar figure stood there.
She was waving at Evelyn with a smile.
