Chapter 659
Evelyn stared at the document in her hand, her brow furrowed deeply.
"What is this..."
Yvonne lowered her gaze, her voice calm and flat.
"Share transfer agreements."
Evelyn certainly recognized them.
But the two agreements before her were startling.
One was from the Sherwood family.
The other was from the Vance Group.
What surprised her even more was that the Vance shares were being transferred to Alexander Vance.
And the beneficiary of the Sherwood shares was herself.
Evelyn looked up at Yvonne.
"Are you trying to make up for what you owed him all those years ago?"
Yvonne's expression remained indifferent.
"It's not about making up for anything. I never harmed him. It was simply my own choice."
Evelyn fell silent.
It was tragic for a woman to be trapped by a child for a lifetime.
But was it truly possible to feel no guilt toward one's own flesh and blood?
Yvonne continued.
"When we divorced, the Vance family gave me some shares as compensation. I didn't want them initially. But I thought of keeping them for him, so I accepted. Now, I'm returning them to their rightful owner. I want nothing to do with anything from the Vances."
Evelyn pressed her lips together.
"And the Sherwood shares?"
"These Sherwood shares were compensation for the losses I suffered by marrying into the Vance family. In the end, they also came because of him." Yvonne looked at her, her gaze icy. "You take them."
"Why give them to me?"
"If I gave them to him, he wouldn't accept them."
Evelyn had no words.
At least her self-awareness was clear.
Evelyn opened the Vance Group transfer agreement.
She noticed the transferor was not Yvonne herself.
It seemed she had someone else hold the shares for her back then.
No wonder Alexander had never known about them.
Previously, when Alexander was fighting his uncle for control, Eleanor Vance had transferred shares to him, helping him secure his position as the head.
Evelyn let out a soft sigh and pushed the two agreements back.
"He won't take them, and I won't either. You say you don't owe him anything. He also believes he shouldn't take anything from you. Regardless, he is your son."
Yvonne remained unmoved and did not take the documents back.
"He's currently facing personnel changes at the Vance Group. These shares are important to him."
Evelyn shook her head.
"Alexander currently holds over fifty percent of the shares. He has absolute control."
Yvonne looked up, her gaze profound.
"Are you sure?"
Evelyn was taken aback.
"What do you mean?"
Yvonne offered no explanation, speaking only in a mild tone.
"The Vance Group is not as simple as you think. You'll understand soon enough."
She paused, then added.
"Don't tell him the shares came from me. Say they were Vance shares your father held through a proxy channel, and he's gifting them to him. It's perfectly reasonable for the Sterling Family to do something like this."
Evelyn wanted to refuse again, but Yvonne waved a hand to cut her off.
"No need to answer now. Go to the Vance estate first and see how he's doing."
Evelyn was stunned.
Yvonne turned, got into her car, and drove away without another word.
Evelyn looked down at the weighty documents in her hand.
She frowned for a long moment.
Finally, she first took the agreements and put them away in her room.
Without her signature, the agreements would not take effect.
She drove to the Vance estate.
In the parking lot, Ethan Valentine approached her.
"Little sis, you're so busy lately I barely see you. Where are you off to now?"
"The Vance estate."
"Missing Alexander already, right after he left? Little sis, you can't be too clingy..." Ethan began to ramble, then suddenly lowered his voice. "Oh, right. About Old Mr. Wright, don't protect him anymore. You've already done enough last time. Just pretend you don't know about anything that happens from now on!"
Evelyn narrowed her eyes.
"I told you to have people keep watch and make sure no one bullies Old Mr. Wright. Did someone cause trouble again?"
Ethan coughed dryly twice.
"They just cursed at him a bit, didn't lay a hand on him. The Cortez Sect brothers are listening to you. It's just... everyone feels uneasy. Little sis, you're the First Senior Sister, but when it comes to major right and wrong, the brothers have their own judgment. Facing the Special Operations Division now... we all feel a bit guilty."
Evelyn sighed softly.
"Don't overthink it. Just wait one more week. Everything will be fine."
Ethan seemed to want to say more but held back.
Evelyn got into her car, her thoughts in turmoil.
The matter with the Special Operations Division weighed on her mind.
Yvonne's words made her even more uneasy.
What new trouble had arisen at the Vance family?
She stepped on the accelerator and headed straight for the Vance estate.
It had been a long time since she last visited.
The Vance mansion was still imposing.
Yet, it carried an indescribable sense of oppression.
Evelyn stepped into the front hall.
The scene before her made her stop abruptly.
Alexander stood in the center of the hall, his expression cold and stern.
Facing him were several senior members of the Vance family.
Their expressions varied.
The atmosphere was tense and confrontational.
Evelyn's heart sank heavily.
Yvonne was right.
The waters of the Vance Group were indeed deep and murky.
