Chapter 664
Natalie Castillo's gaze fell on Victoria Lawrence.
A mocking curve lifted the corner of her mouth.
"Some people are all about chasing fame and empty prestige."
Victoria's face instantly darkened.
Cecilia Evans immediately frowned. "What nonsense are you talking about? Mr. N has always been an enigma. Everyone speculates he's a reclusive elder who donated all his wealth. Even so, he has never made a public appearance. Sister Victoria is the undisputed top figure in the philanthropic world. Am I wrong?"
Evelyn Ross looked up at Natalie.
Her eyes held a hint of scrutiny.
Natalie let out a light laugh.
"Who said N is an old man? She's clearly a young woman. She just finds anonymous charity work purer and doesn't want to build any persona. It's not even her own money she's spending; it's all social funds raised through donations. What's there to show off about?"
Victoria clenched her fingers.
"Miss, please show some respect. I lead fundraising efforts for the charity foundation every year, raising tens of millions."
"Tens of millions?"
Natalie tossed a sunflower seed into her mouth.
Crunch.
She chewed slowly.
"How impressive."
The disdain in her tone was almost palpable.
Both Victoria and Cecilia's expressions changed.
Cecilia said angrily, "What do you mean by that?"
Natalie spread her hands.
"Nothing at all. Just eating a seed. What, does the Vance family not even allow people to eat seeds?"
Alexander Vance's lips curved slightly.
"The Vance family has no such rule."
"Then Miss Victoria is just being overly sensitive."
Natalie blinked.
"A philanthropist must enjoy the praise and also bear the scrutiny. You can't just take the reputation and not accept a few words from others, right?"
Victoria was so angry her chest heaved.
Natalie's tongue was sharp.
A few sentences had left the two of them speechless.
She turned back to Evelyn and raised an eyebrow.
"So? How's my combat power?"
Evelyn lowered her eyes.
"Passable."
"But why are you speaking up for me?"
"I told you, you're my future subordinate."
Natalie patted her shoulder.
"Little sidekick, your mouth is pretty sharp too, you just don't like to use it at critical moments. You still need to watch me."
Evelyn didn't respond.
She simply couldn't be bothered to argue with fools.
Like now.
What did it matter if Natalie had retorted?
The show would still go on.
Sure enough.
Cecilia immediately looked at Evelyn.
"Miss Ross, are you targeting Sister Victoria because you have a problem with her? But what has she done wrong? She just has an unrequited crush on Uncle. You're quite famous now, and it greatly affects the Vance family. Uncle and Sister Victoria meeting through a matchmaker shouldn't concern you, right?"
Matchmaker?
Evelyn raised an eyebrow and looked at Alexander.
Alexander's face darkened.
"What nonsense are you spouting?"
Cecilia shrugged.
"Why are you so nervous, Uncle? As long as you're not married yet, isn't it normal to meet potential partners? You're not so afraid of Miss Ross that you've reached this point, are you?"
If they were an ordinary couple.
Hearing this would inevitably plant seeds of doubt.
But Alexander and Evelyn just found it ridiculous.
Evelyn even felt a bit bored.
She was about to speak.
Natalie burst out laughing.
So Evelyn remained silent.
She looked at Natalie.
Natalie took a step forward.
"Miss Evans, your skill at sowing discord needs more practice. Right now, it's just a bit... unsightly."
Cecilia choked.
Then she said angrily, "I don't care what your relationship with Miss Ross is. But Sister Victoria is better than Miss Ross. If she could marry my uncle, she would definitely bring a positive influence to the Vance family."
Natalie clicked her tongue.
"So the Vance family's image relies entirely on women to uphold it?"
Cecilia was choked up again.
Natalie grinned and looked at Victoria.
"And you, do you really think you're invincible? Do you even know who our Evelyn Ross is?"
Before Evelyn could react.
Natalie raised her voice.
"Everyone, listen up! Miss Evelyn Ross is the philanthropist, Lady N! So stop bragging about Victoria here. In front of Miss Ross, she's not even fit to shine her shoes!"
As her words fell.
Everyone looked at Evelyn.
Natalie retreated to Evelyn's side.
She lowered her voice.
"Oops, accidentally boasted a bit too big. Evelyn, how do we handle this now?"
Evelyn glanced at her.
"You're the one who boasted. What does it have to do with me?"
Natalie blinked.
"But I was speaking up for you. They definitely see us as a team now. Hehe, how are you going to get out of this one?"
