Chapter 687

Ethan Valentine's face was full of concern.

His gaze remained fixed on Evelyn Ross's face as he spoke, afraid she would show the slightest displeasure.

Seeing Evelyn's expression was calm, he cleared his throat softly and spoke again.

"Cousin, if you really don't want to apologize, just treat it as if it never happened."

"People are forgetful. In a few days, the fuss will naturally die down."

Evelyn waved her hand, too lazy to respond, and turned to go back into the Vance residence.

But as she turned, she caught sight of Lillian Evans and Cecilia Evans lurking furtively in a corner.

They had clearly been watching the whole time.

Evelyn frowned, sighing inwardly.

She had been speaking with Mr. Valentine and her master from a distance.

These two probably hadn't heard anything.

But Cecilia's scrutinizing, probing look was filled with obvious suspicion.

A thought flashed in Evelyn's eyes.

She suddenly raised her voice, looking directly at Ethan.

"Do you also think I've brought shame on the family?"

"Do you insist I apologize?"

"I'm telling you, it's absolutely impossible!"

Ethan was baffled.

He looked confused and spoke awkwardly.

"No, cousin, what I meant was..."

Before he could finish, Evelyn cut him off.

"I come from a humble background."

"I don't understand all those compromises big families make for the sake of profit."

"All I know is, Grace is my friend."

"Her matter, I'm determined to see through!"

Ethan was even more bewildered.

"Cousin, what are you talking about? I..."

"Enough. I won't apologize for this."

"Even if my father and my master came, I wouldn't back down!"

"Anyway, you've already cut ties with me. Why bother with me now?"

With those words, Evelyn turned and pushed the small iron gate open.

She slammed it shut with a loud bang.

Ethan was stunned.

Ethan and Spencer Valentine exchanged a look, both utterly confused.

"What's wrong with our cousin?"

Spencer was equally clueless.

"No idea."

As they stood there puzzled, a soft click sound came from beside them.

The sound of someone cracking a sunflower seed.

They both turned their heads.

Natalie Castillo was walking over slowly.

She was munching on seeds as she walked, swaying over to Spencer.

She smiled brightly.

"So stupid, you still can't figure it out?"

Spencer and Ethan immediately asked.

"What's really going on?"

Natalie said, "Grace is on her period. She's in a bad mood. You walked right into it."

Ethan was speechless.

Spencer was speechless.

Natalie patted their shoulders.

"Alright, hurry home. It's fine! I'm going in now!"

She walked around them and knocked on the iron gate.

The security guard opened it, saw it was her, and immediately smiled.

"Miss Castillo, please come in!"

Natalie nodded and handed a handful of seeds to the guard.

"Security brother, thanks for your hard work~"

Her sweet words were like a warm breeze.

Ahead, Evelyn paid no attention to Natalie's charming display.

She just frowned, staring at Cecilia and Lillian.

Cecilia looked her up and down and spoke.

"Aunt, don't blame me for speaking bluntly."

"Your actions have really brought shame on the family."

"The Valentines and the Cortez Sect have both rejected you."

"If you don't change, I'm afraid the Vance family won't be able to keep you either!"

Lillian quickly nodded in agreement.

"Yes, a married woman should follow her husband."

"You should listen more to Alexander and think more about the Vance family."

"Now that you're no longer the Valentine family's young lady, you should consider your own future situation, right?"

Evelyn raised an eyebrow, about to speak.

But a crisp voice came from behind her.

"I heard in ancient times, women had their feet bound."

"What, now they don't bind feet anymore, they bind brains instead?"

Lillian's face stiffened.

Evelyn turned her head.

Natalie was already standing beside her, still cracking seeds.

"Tsk tsk, with your unsightly demeanor, you're only fit to be a mistress."

"Timid, shrinking, with no sense of self. How embarrassing!"

"If you want to be a housewife, go be one yourself."

"Don't stand here offending others' eyes~"

After saying that, Natalie stepped forward and directly pushed Lillian and Cecilia aside.

A slight smile touched Evelyn's lips as she followed behind her.

She was starting to understand.

This Natalie was excessively lively.

When she was sweet, she could charm anyone.

When she argued, she was even more sharp-tongued.

With her around, Evelyn hardly needed to say much.

The two walked past Cecilia and Lillian and headed straight back to Eleanor Vance's room.

...

Three days later, late at night.

Evelyn and Alexander Vance changed into dark clothes, preparing to go out.

Alexander lowered his voice.

"Tonight, Professor Nathaniel Wright plans to sneak across the border."

"I'm not at ease. I have to go meet him."

If this failed, Professor Wright's journey back to the country would be long and uncertain.

For Evelyn to clear her name, she might have to wait a very long time.

Therefore, Evelyn and Alexander decided to go personally.

They had just stepped out of the room when they saw Natalie leaning against the doorframe with a grin.

"Setting off? Take me with you!"
