Chapter 694
"Just because she's the First Senior Sister, she doesn't have to be patriotic?"
"I don't want to post positive comments for her either! She caused trouble and ran off to hide, why should we clean up her mess!"
"I respect the First Senior Sister, but she was wrong about this! I'm not posting either!"
"Not posting! Nobody post. Defending someone like this is embarrassing!"
"I learned martial arts to serve my country loyally, not to be loyal to someone who isn't patriotic!"
"..."
The disciples around who had been operating their phones stopped and looked at the few who had spoken.
Joseph Cortez recognized them as the stubborn ones and frowned deeply. "The First Senior Sister has her reasons for acting this way. Who are you to question her?"
"Because she's unpatriotic!"
The disciple glared back defiantly. "Just because she's the Sect Leader's disciple, we have to indulge her?"
"I won't do it!"
"I have no face to post that!"
"Me neither!"
"..."
More voices joined in agreement. More people put down their phones.
Joseph felt a tightness in his chest. "I trained you to become capable, not to follow the crowd blindly! Do you really have so little faith in your own First Senior Sister?"
Someone shouted, "It's not about faith! The First Senior Sister is special. She didn't grow up or train with us. Who knows what her character is really like?"
"That's right, Sect Leader. What if you're mistaken and she really is a spy? She openly defended Old Mr. Wright. I can't even hold my head up in front of my colleagues in the Special Operations Division!"
"..."
Listening to their arguments, Joseph's anger boiled over. "You ungrateful brats, daring to disobey orders? I said, anyone who doesn't post a thousand comments will hold their horse stance until dark!"
But the disciples of the Cortez Sect were notoriously stubborn. Someone immediately yelled back, "Even if I hold it until I collapse, I won't say a single word to help a traitor!"
"Me too!"
"And me!"
"Count me in!"
One by one, the Cortez Sect disciples put down their phones, their expressions stubborn as they stared at Joseph.
Joseph: "..."
He was practically fuming. He pointed at the group. "Fine! Just you wait! You'll regret this someday!"
His disciple was definitely not unpatriotic. If she said she needed a week, she would clear her name within that week.
The others, however, stubbornly held their horse stances, retorting defiantly, "Then we'll wait! Who's afraid?"
Joseph: !!!
Inside the Special Operations Division.
A group of people huddled together.
Deputy Director Marcus Wright, Leo Wright, and several other SOD members who had been suppressed by the Cortez Sect were watching the live stream.
Leo remembered how Evelyn Ross had saved him at the martial arts tournament. He couldn't bring himself to say anything bad about her. But the others had no such reservations.
"Heh, she never thought this day would come when she was defending Old Mr. Wright!"
"Acting all high and mighty just because she's the First Senior Sister, pushing us around. Can't beat her in a fight, but public opinion can sure take her down!"
"Look how vicious the comments are! Serves her right! Who told her to defend Old Mr. Wright!"
During this period, Evelyn had gone to extreme lengths to protect Benjamin Wright. She had stationed several trusted aides outside his door, fearing someone might harm him in her absence.
Just as someone finished speaking, they saw a person carrying takeout for Benjamin Wright walk inside...
The group was instantly outraged. "Is he serving a sentence or enjoying retirement? He can even order takeout! This is too much! What does he think the Special Operations Division is?"
"Isn't he just relying on the First Senior Sister's backing to act without fear?"
"What's so great about the First Senior Sister? We don't want an unpatriotic First Senior Sister! What good is high martial arts skill?"
"Didn't you see? The Sterling Family is holding a press conference to disown her. I heard the Cortez Sect disowned her too. Doesn't that mean she has no authority over our Special Operations Division now?"
Hearing this, everyone turned their gaze towards the direction of Benjamin Wright's study.
Meanwhile, the subject of their discussion, Evelyn Ross, was sitting in Alexander Vance's car, heading to the press conference venue.
Evelyn leaned back in her seat and asked softly, "How much longer until Professor Nathaniel Wright lands safely?"
Alexander checked the time. "He'll touch down in half an hour."
"Good."
