Chapter 722
Alexander Vance didn't care about those few shares of the Vance Group at all.
He held meetings with his overseas team every night, and the international channels he had developed were already deeply entrenched and extensive.
The combined scale of those industries was probably far larger than the Vance Group.
Evelyn Ross nodded gently, indicating she understood.
As they spoke, Eleanor Vance shakily stood up.
The gazes of everyone in the living room instantly focused on her.
Eleanor smiled and said, "I need to use the restroom."
Lillian Evans immediately stepped forward. "Let me help you..."
Before she could finish, Eleanor's entire weight slumped onto Lillian.
Lillian couldn't support her at all.
Cecilia Evans hurried forward to help. Only with the combined effort of mother and daughter did they barely prevent the old lady from falling.
Seeing this, Alexander and Evelyn's pupils constricted sharply.
The way Eleanor had swayed dangerously when she stood up had made their hearts leap into their throats.
They immediately moved forward.
But Richard Evans stepped out, blocking their path. "Grandma going to the bathroom is none of your concern."
He then placed a hand on Eleanor's shoulder. "Grandma, I'll take you."
Eleanor pointed to the second floor. "I want to go upstairs."
Her master bedroom was on the second floor. Wanting to go to a familiar place was understandable.
But Richard found it troublesome. "There's a bathroom on the first floor. I'll take you there."
"No." Eleanor pouted disdainfully. "I want to go upstairs."
Richard frowned. "In your condition, you shouldn't be climbing stairs..."
If she went upstairs, wouldn't he have to carry her?
As soon as he finished speaking, Alexander's voice rang out. "If you don't want to carry her, I will."
He walked straight over. The oppressive aura around him made Richard tense up instantly.
Richard immediately blocked Alexander again. "No need to trouble you!"
Alexander said calmly, "I don't find it troublesome."
"Grandma will find it troublesome!" Richard said warily. "She doesn't recognize you yet. Having you help her to the bathroom would definitely make her uncomfortable. So, I'll take Grandma upstairs!"
With that, he scooped Eleanor up in his arms and strode toward the staircase.
Lillian and Cecilia hurried to follow.
Evelyn and Alexander exchanged a glance and followed as well.
Second floor.
Richard was, after all, not young anymore. After carrying Eleanor upstairs, he was already panting heavily.
Eleanor pointed to her room. "There! Take me there!"
Richard was about to hand her over to Lillian, but Eleanor looked at Alexander instead.
"Why do I feel... this handsome young man looks familiar? Who is he..."
This sentence made Richard's face pale with fright. He immediately rushed into the room with Eleanor in his arms. "Grandma, you're mistaken! What's familiar about him? Don't think nonsense. Your mind isn't working right!"
Eleanor said, "Oh... oh."
She smiled. "My good grandson, you're the filial one. Take me to the bathroom..."
"Alright, taking you right now!"
Richard said this as he carried her into the bedroom.
Lillian and Cecilia exchanged a look. Neither of them followed inside.
Eleanor insisting on coming upstairs definitely wasn't just for a simple bathroom visit.
Just thinking about that kind of scene made mother and daughter feel nauseous and unwilling to attend to her.
Cecilia directly blocked the doorway. "Mom, let's stay outside and keep Uncle and Aunt company."
Lillian immediately understood. "Alright."
They both looked at Evelyn and Alexander.
Cecilia pretended to be concerned. "Uncle, don't take it to heart that Grandma doesn't remember you. She's old, and her mind is confused."
Lillian also spoke up. "Alexander, your older brother often mentions you. He says you were well-behaved and sensible as a child... How did you two brothers grow apart after growing up?"
Alexander couldn't be bothered to respond to them.
Evelyn spoke directly. "Did you two forget to brush your teeth this morning? Your breath is so strong."
Lillian and Cecilia were instantly choked into silence.
Evelyn continued. "Why don't you go downstairs and rinse your mouths? Or talk less?"
Mother and daughter were left speechless, their faces turning green with anger. They snorted and stopped talking.
Evelyn looked at Alexander, only to see his brow deeply furrowed, his gaze fixed intently on the bedroom door.
She thought he was still upset about his grandmother not recognizing him and comforted him in a low voice. "Grandma is definitely deliberately making things difficult for Richard. Just like this morning when she vomited on the floor and insisted he clean it up. Who knows how she's tormenting him inside the room right now..."
Alexander's frown deepened.
He suddenly spoke. "Evelyn, how much time does Grandma have left?"
Evelyn fell silent.
Eleanor's physical condition was extremely poor. The illness was progressing too rapidly.
Time was running out.
It could even be said that something could happen at any moment...
She didn't answer, but Alexander had already read the answer from her expression.
He looked at the door again and suddenly exclaimed in a low voice. "No! Something's wrong!"
Grandma's behavior today was too abnormal!
Before the words fully left his mouth, he was already charging toward the room!
