Chapter 727
Richard Evans immediately turned his head and scanned the room.
Apart from a few senior members of the Sterling Family overseeing the vigil, everyone else present today was from the Vance family.
Julian Evans and Margaret Evans were also there.
They stood in a corner, silently watching him.
On the day Eleanor Vance passed away, Evelyn Ross had informed Julian to come and pay his final respects. Margaret had learned of it and followed along.
People are truly strange.
Back when she lived in the Vance household, Margaret was full of resentment, finding fault with everyone, and showed no respect for Eleanor Vance. Yet, after living outside for a while and learning to let go, she had become much more peaceful.
Now, she seemed like a normal mother, a normal wife, full of vitality.
Throughout the funeral, she had worked hard to play the role of the eldest grandson's wife properly, ensuring the ceremony proceeded without incident and preventing outsiders from seeing any disgrace.
At this moment, she was looking at Richard Evans.
For some reason, when Alexander Vance stared at him, Richard didn't feel humiliated. But being looked at like this by Margaret, he suddenly felt an unprecedented sense of shame.
What right did she have to look at him like that?
In this family before, she had always lived according to his moods. If he agreed to stay the night, she would carefully try to please him...
Now she was looking at him with such pity...
Richard sneered, "What do you know? When the funeral began, that woman came. Lillian, afraid of causing gossip, left first with Cecilia. She left for the sake of the bigger picture. We agreed that she would come with Cecilia to pick me up today."
Saying this, Richard suddenly glared at Alexander. "Alexander Vance, you wouldn't dare try to take back the money I gave them, would you? That was a voluntary gift from me, it has nothing to do with the Vance family assets!"
Alexander let out a cold laugh.
Before he could speak, Richard roared again, "We both know what happened with Grandma. Alexander Vance, I don't owe you anything! I haven't done anything wrong! You'd better know when to stop!"
With the video evidence, the charge of him pushing Eleanor Vance couldn't be cleared.
Given that, Richard had made a decisive choice.
To protect the assets he had given Lillian over the years.
He had indeed been completely charmed by that mother and daughter. Not only had he transferred large sums to Lillian annually, but he had also given an astronomical dowry when Cecilia got married.
He had even taken some money from Robert Vance...
All together, it amounted to at least several hundred million.
It couldn't compare to the assets of the Vance Group, but it was better than having nothing.
Alexander Vance was ruthless and cunning.
When Eleanor Vance was alive, he might have considered family ties. But now that she was gone, Richard understood that if he didn't win, he had lost!
Alexander said calmly, "Those won't be taken back. But are you so sure you can get them?"
"Of course! I gave all that to Lillian. How could I not get it? She and Cecilia are waiting for me to come home!"
After saying this, Richard sneered.
Robert Vance beside him hurriedly spoke up, "Richard, why aren't you fighting for it? How can you just give up like this?!"
Richard scoffed, "Grandma was always biased since I was a child, right up to her death. Even if I fought, what could I possibly gain? So, I don't want it anymore!"
He looked around the entire Vance family, his gaze sweeping over each person, before letting out another derisive laugh. "This Vance family, I don't want it anymore!"
Then, he turned towards Eleanor Vance's memorial altar.
His eyes fixed intently on Eleanor Vance's spirit tablet.
He stared at it for a long time, finally letting out a cold laugh and shouting loudly, "Grandma! Your heart was truly twisted! I really don't know what's so great about Alexander Vance that you would go to such lengths for him! You didn't want to leave a single share for me! You could have just said so! Why provoke me?!"
Alexander frowned. "What nonsense are you talking?"
"Am I talking nonsense?"
Richard stared straight at him. "What happened that day, outsiders couldn't possibly know. But what about Grandma's will? The shares in the will must have all been left to you, right?! Since everyone is here, why not take out the will and let everyone see? Let everyone see how biased Grandma's heart was!"
He was so angry his chest heaved violently...
Even though he had made his choice, he was still deeply resentful. He had lived in the Vance family for over thirty years, all for the Vance shares. To end up with nothing was unacceptable.
He refused to accept it!
Elder Howard Vance frowned.
Robert Vance also coughed. "Let's not bring out the will..."
"Why not? Dad, are you even biased towards Alexander Vance now?!"
Richard glared furiously at Robert. "Just because I'm about to be kicked out, your heart has shifted to this second son? Too bad, it's too late now!"
He took a step forward, staring at Elder Howard Vance. "As a descendant of the Vance family, I have the right to see the will! I also have the right to demand the contents of the will be made public! If you don't show it to us, it means you have something to hide!"
Seeing this, Robert Vance wanted to say something more but was choked by Richard's words, coughing violently.
Elder Howard Vance also sighed. "Richard, why make things so ugly at this point?"
Richard sneered, "You forced me! Then let the facts be laid out before everyone! Bring out the contents of the will! Let everyone see! Let the people of the Vance second branch see! Let the people of the Sterling Family see... see how biased Eleanor Vance was!"
Elder Howard Vance still wanted to dissuade him, but Alexander spoke calmly, "Second Grandfather, show it to him."
As soon as Alexander spoke, the entire memorial hall fell silent.
Everyone's eyes turned to Elder Howard Vance.
Elder Howard Vance sighed.
Robert Vance immediately stood up beside him, wanting to interrupt, but Elder Howard Vance directly took Eleanor Vance's will out of his bag.
Richard stared fixedly at that will.
Even if he was leaving, he wanted everyone in the Vance family to know about the old lady's bias. He wanted everyone to know that Alexander's position as Chairman wasn't legitimate, that he only got there because of Eleanor Vance's favoritism.
Then, he heard Elder Howard Vance begin to read slowly...
