Chapter 747

Sebastian Truman's expression was grim.

His gaze was locked on the road ahead.

He had already thoroughly inspected the sports car.

The brake system had completely failed.

The engine's roar was deafening.

The speed was still climbing relentlessly.

There was simply no way to stop it.

It was hopeless...

Even with this clear understanding of their situation, Sebastian's demeanor remained calm.

He turned his head to look at his sister, Mia Truman, in the passenger seat.

"Did you eat anything this morning?"

Mia was currently sobbing, tears streaming down her face.

His question left her utterly bewildered.

"Brother, what are you saying?"

"I asked if you had breakfast."

"Wah... What kind of time is this to ask that... Ah! The curve ahead... Brother, we're going too fast! We might not make the turn..."

"So you did eat?" Sebastian's tone was still steady.

"Yes."

"Good. At least we won't be starving ghosts."

"..."

Hearing this, Mia's tears flowed even more violently.

"Wah... Brother, but I don't want to die yet! Wah..."

Sebastian watched the road ahead with cool focus.

"There's a river up ahead. You know how to swim. When I drive us toward it, find your chance and jump. There's still a slim chance of survival."

Mia protested, "That river has a strong current! Even if I jump, I might not make it. You're a better swimmer than me. Let me take the wheel. You jump!"

This road had many curves.

Someone had to stabilize the steering wheel.

At this speed, the opportunity would be gone in an instant.

If they both jumped at the same time, the car would go out of control.

Neither of them would escape.

Sebastian was giving her the chance to live.

Hearing Mia's words, Sebastian's voice grew firm.

"I'm your older brother. Protecting you is my responsibility."

"No! This is my fault! I can't let you die for me!" Mia's attitude was resolute.

Sebastian sighed.

"Forget it. Even if you jump, you probably won't survive. Let's not argue about it then."

Mia asked, "...Brother, will it hurt when we die?"

"No." Sebastian explained calmly.

"When the human body suffers a severe impact, it secretes a large amount of dopamine. This temporarily blocks pain perception to enable self-preservation. After the car crashes, we will most likely lose consciousness very quickly. So we won't feel any pain. Don't be afraid."

Mia was speechless.

Don't be afraid?

Was that something a human should say?

Mia's tears kept falling.

"But... I really don't want to die!"

Inside the car, this bizarre conversation continued.

Meanwhile, at the entrance of the Truman estate, the small group there was completely stunned.

The sports car's speed was terrifyingly fast.

In the blink of an eye, it had roared past them and onto the highway.

There was no time to react.

They had even seen the sports car execute a dangerously sharp drift on a curve.

It had almost flipped over!

If Sebastian hadn't taken over as driver from Mia.

If Sebastian hadn't some experience with racing.

If Mia had been the one driving through that curve just now...

They probably would have been dead already!

Cecilia Evans swallowed hard in shock.

Evelyn Ross, however, furrowed her brows.

She immediately rushed toward the driver's seat of her own car.

Natalie Castillo ran over and grabbed her arm.

"What are you doing? You're not thinking of trying to save them, are you? I know, saving them would secure the cooperation. But we don't need to go that far! Besides, that's a sports car. How could your car possibly catch up?"

Evelyn didn't answer.

She simply pushed Natalie's hand away.

She slammed the car door shut with a bang.

Natalie immediately began frantically knocking on the window.

"Evelyn Ross! Get out of there! The Sterling Family's predictions are never wrong! They said he would have an accident at exactly ten o'clock. It will happen! Trying to save someone from a Sterling Family prediction comes at a huge cost! Get out now!"

But the car suddenly reversed.

Then Evelyn turned the steering wheel sharply.

She slammed on the accelerator.

The car shot forward with a whoosh!

Natalie tried to chase after it.

But the car accelerated too quickly.

She couldn't keep up.

Only when the car disappeared from sight did Natalie stop running.

Terrified, she pulled out her phone and called Alexander Vance.

"Come quickly! Something's happened to Evelyn!"

After hanging up, her face was full of anxiety.

Beside her, Cecilia Evans, though frightened, ultimately saw Sebastian and Mia as strangers.

She didn't care about them.

Seeing this, she sneered.

"She wants to play the hero and save them? How utterly presumptuous!"

"...That is a bit presumptuous, isn't it?"

In the car ahead, Sebastian focused on driving.

But Mia, looking in the rearview mirror, saw a black SUV chasing after them.

She couldn't help but speak up.

"Big brother, that girl from the gate is catching up. What does she want? Could she be trying to save us?"

Sebastian also glanced in the rearview mirror.

He frowned.

Mia continued.

"Leaving aside that we're in a sports car, and our speed is still increasing... She's in an SUV. Even if she floors it, she can't possibly catch us, right?"

As soon as the words left her mouth, she saw the car behind suddenly accelerate.

It closed the distance a little.

Mia was baffled.

What??
