Chapter 758
Mia Truman's body swayed.
She felt the ground beneath her feet cracking.
When she learned that Liam Cooper had bribed Fiona Vance, a sliver of hope remained in her heart—Liam wouldn't harm her. So when Chloe Raymond stepped forward to confess, Mia almost believed it immediately.
But the truth...
The truth was like a slap, striking her face with brutal force.
The mastermind was actually Liam Cooper!
Mia took a sharp breath, her chest clogged with shock and absurdity. She wanted to scream, to flee, to cover her eyes and not see—
But a cold hand clamped tightly around her wrist.
The earpiece remained pressed against her ear, the cruel words continuing to flow.
Mia closed her eyes, covered her ears, and slowly crouched down. She murmured to herself, "It can't be... he saved my life... how could he..."
In the earpiece, Chloe Raymond's sweet, simpering voice sounded again. "Liam, why does she keep clinging to you? You've treated her so badly, and she still won't leave. How pathetic!"
Liam gave a light laugh, his tone casual. "Her? She had an accident a few years ago. A firefighter saved her. I happened to be there at the time, and she mistakenly thought I was her savior. Because of that misunderstanding, she's completely devoted to me now. Hah, no matter how terribly I treat her, she won't fight back..."
His words ended with a smug, low chuckle.
Each syllable was like a poisoned needle, piercing Mia's heart.
Mia pressed a hand to her chest, raised her head, and stared fixedly at Liam. "It wasn't him... he wasn't the one who saved me?!"
The fog in her eyes suddenly cleared.
It was as if someone had thrown a bucket of ice water over her, shocking her into instant clarity.
Mia stood up, her gaze toward Liam now burning with fury and accusation.
"How could it not be him?"
"This is impossible!"
She trembled, her eyes shifting to Evelyn Ross.
Then to Sebastian Truman.
Sebastian hadn't heard the conversation in the earpiece. Seeing her state, he stepped forward to support her. "Mia, what's wrong?"
"Brother, it wasn't him..." Mia's lips twitched, somewhere between a sob and a laugh. "The person who saved me... it wasn't him."
Evelyn knew Mia had loved this man for three and a half years. It was natural she'd struggle to accept this.
Just as Evelyn was about to offer comfort, Mia let out a low, bitter laugh and suddenly seemed to relax completely.
"How could I... have liked such a scumbag for three and a half years?"
She pointed to her own chest, speaking slowly to Sebastian. "Brother, I think I suddenly understand."
"Understand what?"
Mia shook her head. "I don't know. Before, I was obsessed with him. I liked him so much I lost myself. But the moment I learned he wasn't my savior... that feeling of liking him just vanished."
She pressed her hand against her chest. "All that's left here now is hatred."
Having said that, she turned her furious gaze back to Liam Cooper!
She, the esteemed young lady of the Truman family, had been deceived by such trash for three and a half whole years!
She couldn't swallow this anger!
Mia ripped off the Bluetooth earpiece, shoved it into Evelyn's hand, and strode toward Liam.
Liam was whispering flirtatiously with Chloe, his words dripping with mockery about Mia's stupidity.
Suddenly, the light dimmed before him.
Liam turned his head and saw Mia standing beside him, her face cold, her eyes icy.
He frowned. "Why are you back again?"
Mia said nothing.
Liam's gaze swept over Evelyn and the others, landing on Sebastian. He raised an eyebrow. "These your friends? Here to party at the bar too?"
As soon as he spoke, the female companions sitting beside him and Chloe started chattering.
"Mia Truman, are you done yet? Always harassing Liam, can't we even have fun?"
"Exactly, have you no shame? Don't you know Chloe is Liam's real girlfriend? It's disgusting!"
These women were all Chloe's close friends. Liam often boasted about his family background in front of them.
Hearing this, Liam looked at Mia with impatience. "Didn't I tell you to leave? You have to stick around? If you want to party, go to the booth next door!"
Mia stared at him. "Why should I?"
"Because you're living off Liam! Because every penny you spend is given by Liam! Mia Truman, can't you have any self-respect?!"
Chloe also flared up. She stood and walked right up to Mia. "You, get out of here right now!"
Mia let out a scornful laugh and looked at Liam. "This rich heir act of yours... have you had enough?"
