Chapter 841

Evelyn was stunned.

"How did it happen? Wasn't it because of you?"

Cedric fell silent for a moment before speaking slowly.

"She refused the man the family arranged for her. After she had her uterus removed, they did break her legs. But the injuries on her face... were because of you."

He continued.

"You suddenly went off the grid in New York that year. For nearly a year, there was no word from you. The Sterling Family thought you had defected. So, they took their anger out on her. They tortured her."

Evelyn's pupils constricted sharply.

"How could..."

Cedric sighed.

"She didn't tell you because she was afraid you'd blame yourself. Even though she only raised you for three years, she truly loved you like her own flesh and blood. The Sterling Family has few descendants. She saw you as her real daughter."

Evelyn pressed her lips together tightly.

Even if there was love, it wasn't a reason to steal her sister.

If Elara hadn't stolen her sister, perhaps she and her sister would have grown up safely in San Francisco with Sophia. If her sister were still here, Linda would never have had the chance to switch them...

Cedric seemed to read her thoughts.

His voice grew heavy.

"Do you think your sister and your mother have been safe and sound in San Francisco all these years for no reason? It was Elara maneuvering behind the scenes! She was only exposed because you went to see them on your own! Your every move is monitored. How could you dare?"

Evelyn's entire body stiffened.

The peaceful life she and her mother had in San Francisco... was actually under Elara's protection?

She clenched her fists, her knuckles turning white.

Cedric patted her shoulder.

"You've finally come back. Spend more time with her. All these years you haven't been home, but she's always kept an eye on you. When you married that scumbag, she cursed at home for three days straight. Her voice went hoarse. When you gave birth to Chloe, she was so happy she didn't sleep all night. She rummaged through everything, taking stock of the family assets. She said she'd leave it all to her granddaughter."

After saying this, Cedric turned and left.

Evelyn stood rooted to the spot, her mind in turmoil.

She had finally infiltrated the Sterling Family. She was so close to her mother, Sophia. But stepping outside would expose her. If she didn't go out, how could she gather information?

She lowered her gaze, thinking rapidly.

She could only stay at the Sterling Family for a week. Deducting travel time, she actually only had five days.

If she was trapped in this villa for those five days, wouldn't this trip be for nothing?

Evelyn took a deep breath.

Mason walked over.

"Let's go upstairs and rest first. We'll figure something out tomorrow."

Evelyn nodded.

She followed him upstairs and entered Grace's room.

The room was still decorated like a childhood space, pink and frilly like a princess castle.

Evelyn had returned this time not only to gather information on the Sterling Family and find Sophia. She had another crucial task—to find Grace's account password.

The account password was the key credential for claiming inheritance rights. Without it, she wouldn't even qualify for the final test.

She searched the room meticulously.

The room was large, but there weren't many places to hide things. Since the account password was definitely stored at home, Grace's room was the most likely location.

Toys, clothes, picture books... She turned over every corner but found nothing.

Evelyn rubbed her temples.

She walked to the balcony, wanting to survey the terrain of the Sterling Family estate.

As far as she could see, there were dense clusters of skyscrapers. It was like a forest of steel, with no end in sight.

The sky was gradually lightening.

Evelyn quietly made her way to the rooftop. The roof of this three-story villa was the highest point she could currently reach.

She stood on tiptoe, looking into the distance. The city's skyline was fragmented by the tall buildings. She couldn't see the full picture at all.

As she was concentrating on her observation, she heard the sound of wheelchair wheels rolling behind her.

Elara pushed her wheelchair to her side.

"I know what you want to do."

Evelyn's eyes sharpened.

Elara spoke calmly.

"You've been stubborn since you were a child. You never admit defeat. Now that you're back, you definitely won't just sit still. Don't listen to Cedric trying to scare you. Do what you want to do."

She paused.

"As for me... I stopped wanting to live a long time ago. If suicide wouldn't implicate you, I would have found release already. If something happens to you and I'm executed, it would actually be a form of relief for me."

Evelyn turned to look at her.

"Fortune favors the bold. I came back this time to meet the other heirs. Do you have any information?"

Elara looked into the distance.

"After dark tonight, make your move."
