Chapter 474
Jane Evans's pupils constricted.
She instinctively tried to pull the iron rod back.
But Justin Evans was faster.
He grabbed the other end of the rod.
His eyes glared at her with pure malice.
He yanked it hard.
The rod was instantly wrenched from her grasp.
Justin Evans tossed it to a bodyguard behind him.
Disarmed, Jane Evans was vulnerable.
The bodyguards swarmed her.
They pinned her down forcefully.
Mrs. Evans rushed to Justin Evans's side.
She anxiously checked his forehead.
"Is it bad?"
Justin Evans shook his head.
"Mom, it's fine."
Mrs. Evans immediately turned.
Her gaze locked onto Jane Evans with venom.
"How dare you hurt my son?!"
Jane Evans bit her lip.
Why did she do it?
Didn't they know the reason?
She was only defending herself.
At the very last moment.
She had even held back.
If she hadn't.
That blow would have been fatal.
Justin Evans wouldn't have survived.
Jane Evans clutched her head in agony.
She hated her own weakness.
Her mother and brother treated her like this.
Yet she couldn't bring herself to strike a killing blow.
Her heart felt like cold ashes.
Mrs. Evans's fury only grew.
She motioned to Justin Evans.
"Go get that bandaged."
Justin Evans refused.
"Deal with her first."
Mrs. Evans took a deep breath.
She stepped forward.
She pointed at the bodyguards holding Jane Evans.
"Step aside."
The bodyguards retreated.
Mrs. Evans looked coldly at Jane Evans.
Jane Evans lifted her head.
Her eyes burned with hatred.
Mrs. Evans was unmoved.
She pointed toward the edge of the rooftop.
Her voice was icy.
"Two choices."
"One, strip naked."
"Two, jump."
Jane Evans stared in disbelief.
Mrs. Evans spat the words.
"You dared to hurt my son."
"You won't get away with this today."
"Ten seconds to decide."
"When time's up."
"Don't blame me for being merciless."
She began the countdown.
"Ten…"
"Nine…"
…
Downstairs at the hospital.
Evelyn Ross and John Evans arrived.
John pushed her.
"Go up first!"
His leg injury wasn't healed.
He couldn't run.
Evelyn nodded.
She sprinted toward the inpatient building.
She burst into Jason's room.
It was empty.
She grabbed a passing doctor.
"Where is Jason?"
The doctor paused.
"I think he's on the rooftop."
The rooftop…
Evelyn's heart clenched.
She ran full speed toward the stairs.
Hold on, Jane.
Wait for me.
On the rooftop.
Mrs. Evans coldly watched Jane Evans.
The countdown continued.
"Five…"
"Four…"
In the stairwell.
Evelyn raced upward.
Hearing the countdown.
Her dread intensified.
She reached the stairwell door.
Just in time to hear the final number.
"One!"
Evelyn's heart stopped.
On the rooftop.
Jane Evans looked at Mrs. Evans.
Her eyes were utterly lifeless.
This woman.
Was no longer the mother she remembered.
Consumed by hatred.
She was unrecognizable.
Jane Evans's gaze swept over Justin Evans.
Over the bodyguards.
Finally landing on Jason's face.
Jason was smirking triumphantly.
Jane Evans closed her eyes.
How did she end up with such a family?
Forcing their own daughter to strip in public.
She would rather die than undress.
Jane Evans gave a bitter smile.
Mrs. Evans's voice cut through.
"Time's up."
"Since you won't choose."
"Do it."
"Rip her clothes off!"
A memory flashed.
A gentler time.
Mrs. Evans's soft voice.
"My precious."
"All the most beautiful clothes in the world are for you."
Jane Evans smiled.
She suddenly broke free from the bodyguards.
She dashed toward the rooftop edge.
She took one last look at Mrs. Evans and Justin Evans.
Mom.
Brother.
Goodbye.
Never again in this life.
She leaped.
Mrs. Evans was stung by her final glance.
But quickly regained her cold composure.
Justin Evans panicked.
"Mom, she jumped!"
Mrs. Evans snorted.
"The fourth floor won't kill her."
She looked at Jason.
"Feel better now?"
Jason nodded.
Mrs. Evans pressed immediately.
"Where is my daughter?"
Justin Evans also urged anxiously.
"She jumped."
"Now tell us where my sister is!"
Before he finished.
Evelyn's shout came from the rooftop entrance.
"Mrs. Evans, stop!"
"Jane is your real daughter!"
