Chapter 479

Evelyn Ross was taken aback by this.

How could it be her?

She wasn't specialized in surgery.

She had only acquired some medical knowledge while researching pharmaceuticals...

As she was puzzling over this, Justin Evans voiced the same question. "Isn't Researcher Nora specialized in pharmaceuticals? How could she be the one to save my sister?"

The hospital director immediately explained. "Miss Evans's bleeding point is deep within her internal organs. We've identified a probable location based on conjecture. The suturing process carries extremely high risk. All the doctors are under immense psychological pressure. In this situation, only Researcher Nora can maintain absolutely stable hands."

He continued, "From what I know, Researcher Nora participated in a highly complex surgery overseas. The lead surgeon became too nervous to continue, and she took over and completed it. Her mental fortitude and operational stability are practically made for surgery!"

Evelyn Ross: "..."

So that was why.

Her steady hands were purely a result of all the odd jobs she worked in San Francisco.

After leaving the Ashcroft family, she had taken on many types of work.

She delivered packages, eventually founding her own delivery company.

She worked as a chef, later taking over her mentor's restaurant.

She had also worked at an equestrian club, even dabbled in computing...

She was young then, unable to find formal employment, so she took on miscellaneous jobs.

To keep those jobs, she perfected her skills in every field.

Even for something as simple as tightening screws, she earned the title of "Master Mechanic" at the steel plant.

It all came down to these hands.

She stepped forward directly. "My hands are very steady. Let me do it."

Everyone looked at her simultaneously.

The hospital director frowned. "This..."

Mrs. Evans scrutinized her.

Justin Evans immediately objected. "Grace, stop joking around! This is my biological sister!"

Evelyn ignored him and walked straight to the director. "My hands are very steady. I've observed surgeries. You guide me, I can complete it."

The director studied her for a long moment before hesitantly saying, "Miss Ross, the steadiness of an average person is not the same as the steadiness required for surgery..."

Evelyn walked directly toward the operating room. "Stop wasting time. The patient can't wait."

The director was stunned.

Mrs. Evans frowned. "Miss Ross..."

Evelyn looked at her. "Mrs. Evans, you don't trust me either?"

Mrs. Evans bit her lip.

A moment later, she ordered the director. "Let her try!"

She then said to Justin, "Contact Researcher Nora immediately! See if she can get here!"

Justin replied, "Yes!"

The director, helpless, led Evelyn into the operating room.

While changing and sterilizing, the director said quietly, "Miss Ross, it's not too late to back out now. Seeing the bloody scene and performing precise operations isn't something everyone can handle..."

Evelyn didn't bother with words, quickly changing into surgical scrubs.

She walked to the operating table. The lead surgeon was sweating profusely, his hands trembling slightly.

On the monitor, Jane Evans's vital signs continued to decline.

A slender hand reached over and took the instrument from him.

A calm female voice spoke. "What's next? You direct, I operate."

...

Outside the operating room.

Mrs. Evans and Justin paced anxiously.

Justin couldn't help complaining. "Mom, how could you let Grace mess around? She doesn't know anything about medicine! What if something happens to my sister..."

Mrs. Evans was distraught.

Earlier, meeting Evelyn's gaze, she had inexplicably felt a sense of trust.

Now, she was filled with regret.

She asked John Evans, "Do you know about Miss Ross's medical skills?"

John stared intently at the operating room door and shook his head. "But I believe she wouldn't act recklessly. Grace always knows her limits."

Justin said angrily, "What good is your belief! Why didn't you say something earlier!"

He then said to Mrs. Evans, "Mom, she's definitely doing this on purpose! She knows Jane is my sister and wants me to feel guilty for the rest of my life! That woman is pure evil!"

Mrs. Evans scolded, "Be quiet! The doctors were already out of options! Even if something really happens... you are not to blame Miss Ross!"

Justin kicked the wall in frustration, squatting down and clutching his head. "She's getting back at me! Making sure I never get my sister's forgiveness!"

Mrs. Evans ignored him.

John swallowed nervously, not in the mood to explain.

The three of them stared fixedly at the operating room door.

After what felt like an eternity, the door finally opened.

They instantly tensed up.
