Chapter 480

Their bodies tensed.

Their eyes remained locked on the operating room doors.

The Chief of Surgery emerged first.

He wiped cold sweat from his forehead, his face as pale as paper.

His expression made their hearts stop.

Justin Evans rushed forward.

"Chief, how is my sister?"

The Chief's voice trembled. "We did our best... but we failed to stop the bleeding..."

Justin froze instantly.

Mrs. Evans staggered backward.

She braced herself against the wall to stay upright.

The light in John Evans' eyes completely vanished.

Evelyn Ross followed them out.

She removed her surgical cap and mask, smoothing her disheveled hair.

Justin immediately confronted her. "Did you kill my sister?"

Evelyn raised an eyebrow but remained silent.

The Chief quickly intervened. "Justin, you misunderstand..."

"What else could it be? It was her!"

Justin was nearly out of control.

The Chief hurried to explain. "Miss Evans is out of danger!"

Justin stared blankly. "What?"

The Chief said awkwardly, "We couldn't locate the bleeding point. Miss Ross took over and successfully performed blind sutures. The bleeding has stopped! She saved the situation entirely."

Evelyn spoke calmly. "It was nothing. Your guidance was helpful."

The Chief fell silent.

Theory was one thing.

But difficult surgeries required steady, precise, and decisive skill.

The hospital bed was wheeled out.

Jane Evans lay quietly on it.

The Chief continued his report. "Miss Evans has multiple fractures, including her lower leg, arm, and ribs... Internal bleeding is under control. No brain injury. She needs ICU observation."

Mrs. Evans asked urgently, "When will she wake up?"

The Chief shook his head. "It's uncertain. Her body is weak. She should wake after anesthesia, but she's been under extreme stress recently. She might remain unconscious longer."

Mrs. Evans looked at her daughter with heartache.

She and Justin followed the bed to the ICU doors.

Through the glass window.

Jane's limbs were suspended and immobilized.

Her pale, small face lacked vitality, like a porcelain doll shattered and hastily reassembled.

Justin suddenly slapped himself hard.

"It's all my fault! I'm a complete bastard!"

Mrs. Evans wept. "I spoiled you too much. I let you hurt your own sister!"

"It's my mistake!"

Justin looked devastated. "Mom, I finally understand... What if my sister encountered someone like me out there? I deserve to die!"

He slapped himself again.

His swollen cheeks couldn't ease his regret.

He recalled how he had treated his sister.

He ruined her internship opportunity.

He drove her to jump...

Justin raised his hand to punish himself again.

Mrs. Evans clutched her chest, gasping. "I failed as a mother. My mistake is greater!"

Evelyn and John exchanged a silent glance.

Evelyn reminded them softly. "Instead of blaming yourselves, consider how to deal with Jason Evans."

Her words woke them.

Mrs. Evans and Justin's expressions changed instantly.

Justin gritted his teeth. "You're right! Jason not only hid the jade pendant's origin, he encouraged us to bully Jane knowing she was our sister! What was his intention?"

Mrs. Evans clenched her fists. "He was toying with us!"

Justin turned to leave.

Mrs. Evans asked urgently, "Where are you going?"

"To avenge my sister! Mom, let us young people handle our own problems."

Justin strode away.

Mrs. Evans hesitated, but ultimately did not follow.

She looked at Evelyn, her lips trembling for a long time before she managed two words. "Thank you."

"Don't mention it."

Evelyn responded indifferently. "I saved my friend's sister. But the Evans family owes me a favor. How do you plan to repay it?"

Mrs. Evans stated immediately. "As long as it's reasonable, the Evans family will repay it!"

She had already vowed privately that if someone helped her find her daughter, she would give half her family fortune.

Evelyn said, "I just want to complete our cooperation with the Evans family."

Mrs. Evans was stunned. "That's all?"

"Yes."

Evelyn thought for a moment. "I own a medical research institute. I hope to sign a ten-year supply contract. Your hospitals will distribute our medications."

Nora Research Institute's products were highly sought after by major hospitals.

She didn't want to take advantage of the Evans family. Mutual benefit was the best option.

But Mrs. Evans misunderstood.

There were thousands of medical research institutes in the country.

Apart from Nora Research Institute, they all begged to cooperate with the Evans family.

Since their benefactor asked, purchasing some insignificant medications was fine.

It could be considered an annual fund to repay the favor.

Mrs. Evans nodded faintly. "What's the name of your institute?"
