Chapter 508
"What?"
Nathan White froze, looking at Justin Evans in confusion, then glanced over at Jane Evans.
Justin was about to speak. "She is my..."
"Ahhh!"
Before he could finish, Jane suddenly snatched up a broom and began hitting Justin over the head with it.
Her eyes were red, glaring fiercely at Justin.
Nathan's terrified expression made it clear that Justin had bullied him relentlessly in the past. Otherwise, why would a simple step forward frighten him so much?
Jane stared at Justin with hatred.
Images of his past humiliations flashed through her mind...
In the hospital, forcing her to apologize to Jason Evans...
On the rooftop, forcing her to jump...
He was no longer the older brother who protected her in their youth. He was a complete monster!
She didn't want a brother like this!
As for that Evans family, she would never acknowledge them either!
Jane's sudden attack stunned everyone.
Even Justin stood frozen in place, unmoving.
He knew he had done too much wrong. It was only right for his sister to vent. He shouldn't resist; he deserved to take it.
It was all his fault.
Justin stood silently, turning his side towards Jane, letting her strike him again and again.
Seeing he didn't even try to dodge, Jane hit him even harder.
She remembered Nathan's words earlier... and trembled with rage.
A brother like this had even ruined the marriage of Evelyn Ross's older brother and sister-in-law... How could such a vicious person exist in the world?
Why did such a vicious person have to be her own flesh and blood...
Large tears rolled down her cheeks.
She was still weak from her recent illness. Soon, her strength gave out. Her hand went limp, the broom clattered to the floor, and she slumped down, exhausted.
John Evans hurriedly caught her.
Justin also looked over with concern, taking a step forward to speak, but John coldly cut him off. "Can you leave? Jane just recovered from a serious illness. She can't handle this stress! Are you trying to push her to her death?"
Hearing this, Justin stopped in his tracks.
He looked pleadingly at Jane, but his sister refused to even look at him. She leaned heavily against John, her chest heaving, her small face pale with anger.
Justin clenched his teeth.
The pain from the beating was nothing. What hurt more was his heart.
If it were possible... if there were a time machine, he would give anything to go back, back to the time when he helped Jason bully his sister, and stop his past self.
Justin tightened his fists.
Evelyn Ross had been standing at a distance. Only now did she slowly approach. "You should go back first. Don't disturb Jane's rest here."
All strength seemed to drain from Justin's body. He lowered his head, and after a long moment, spoke hoarsely. "I'll be back."
Justin turned and left.
He wouldn't give up on his sister... He had to work hard to earn her forgiveness!
After Justin left, Nathan looked at Jane in disbelief. "Jane, you... how dare you hit Justin Evans? It's over, it's over! That last thing he said, he's definitely going back to call for help! I need to think of something. I'll go get my mom to help you!"
With that, he turned and ran.
John called out urgently behind him. "Hey, don't run, it's not what you think..."
But Nathan was already gone, his figure disappearing around the corner of the alley.
John helped Jane back inside.
Jane's eyes were red, but she took Evelyn's hand, gesturing in sign language. John translated. "I'm sorry... he actually ruined your older brother and sister-in-law's relationship..."
Hearing this, Evelyn couldn't help but laugh bitterly. She sighed softly and patted Jane's head. "What do you have to be sorry for? Actually, his words didn't have the biggest impact on my brother and sister-in-law. If my brother always trusted my sister-in-law, no outsider's provocation would matter. In the end, it was a lack of trust between them."
Jane finally relaxed a little.
Seeing her mood had eased slightly, Evelyn spoke gently. "You should rest properly now. Don't overthink. Your body is still very weak. You should have stayed in the hospital."
Jane waved her hands repeatedly, lowering her eyes.
John explained. "My sister didn't want to see Mrs. Evans or Justin. She also didn't want to spend their money on the hospital, so she came back. I asked the doctor. They said she's basically fine now, just needs quiet rest..."
Evelyn nodded.
John said, "Let me walk you out."
Evelyn looked at Jane, seeing she had already lain down, and didn't stay longer.
She stood up and walked out.
After they left the room, John let out a deep sigh. "Who would have thought Jane is the Evans family's long-lost daughter. This is too hard for Jane to accept... after all, she was bullied so terribly..."
Evelyn nodded in agreement.
The two walked to the mouth of the alley. From a distance, they could see Justin still standing there.
John frowned. "He's stubborn too."
Evelyn said calmly, "My family has a stubborn one too. These people... they don't think when they're doing evil. Now one is chasing his wife through hell, the other is chasing his sister through hell... Well, let them be."
John smiled wryly and nodded.
After seeing Evelyn off, John limped his way to the market.
They had been at the hospital for so long, there was no food left at home.
Justin stood quietly in the distance, watching the alley entrance.
He hadn't treated his injuries, just stood there, letting out a soft sigh.
Not long after, he suddenly saw a woman walking hurriedly into the alley—wasn't that Nathan's mother?
Justin was startled. Sensing her hostile expression, he immediately followed.
...
Jane lay in bed, unable to sleep for a long time, her heart in agony.
Just as she was tangled in her thoughts, violent knocking suddenly came from outside.
Her brother had gone out to see Evelyn off and hadn't returned yet.
She struggled to get up and walked to the door to open it.
As soon as she pulled the door open, it was roughly pushed from the outside, causing her to stagger back.
Jane steadied herself and looked up to see a middle-aged woman barging in aggressively.
The woman was dressed luxuriously, wearing pearl jewelry, radiant and opulent.
As soon as she entered, her gaze locked onto Jane, demanding sharply. "You're Jane Evans?"
Jane nodded blankly.
The noblewoman sneered. "You do look delicate and pitiful! No wonder you've bewitched my Nathan, even daring to challenge Justin Evans! What a little vixen!"
Jane was stunned.
She hurriedly waved her hands, wanting to explain but unable to speak. She grabbed a pen and paper and wrote. "You've misunderstood. I didn't. Nathan misunderstood too. It's not like that."
"Not like that? Then what is it like? If not for you, would Nathan have confronted Justin Evans? If not for you, would Nathan have gone home begging me to step in and help you? He even wanted me to go plead with Mrs. Evans, to ask the Evans family to let you off! You little tramp, what exactly did you do? How dare you offend the Evans family?"
Jane froze.
She stared at Nathan's mother in shock.
Nathan's mother didn't realize her slip of the tongue and continued her furious tirade. "And look at yourself! Living in this shabby, rundown dump in the slums, yet you dare to seduce my son! A little mute, not even a normal person, relying on this pitiful look to gain men's sympathy? You want my son to marry you? Are you even worthy?!"
Jane was dumbfounded, her eyes wide with shock.
Nathan's mother grew more agitated as she spoke. "I came today to tell you, stop dreaming. My son will never marry you! Stay away from my son from now on! Do you hear me? Especially, stop using my son to go against the Evans family! I'm telling you, our family will never offend the Evans family because of you!!"
The light in Jane's eyes gradually dimmed.
She grabbed the pen and paper, smiling self-deprecatingly.
She wrote. "I didn't use Nathan!"
Nathan's mother raged. "Then why did you make him go home and beg me to help you? If that's not using him, what is?"
Jane continued writing. "The Evans family won't come after me anymore. The issue between us is resolved. Nathan misunderstood."
"Resolved? You think jumping off a building makes the Evans family's anger disappear? You wish! I'm telling you, impossible!"
Jane took a deep breath and slowly wrote. "They won't bully me anymore because... I am their long-lost biological daughter they've been searching for all these years!"
