Chapter 611

Evelyn paused her steps.

Alexander's voice sounded beside her ear. "You already have the answer in your heart, you're just not certain yet. Going to find Nicole today was to verify this guess, wasn't it?"

Evelyn let out a soft sigh. "How do you guess everything? I haven't even said anything."

Alexander chuckled. "It's not hard to guess. This person must be closely connected to the Castillo family. Only a handful of people could know Old Mr. Castillo's password."

Evelyn nodded, lowering her gaze, a flicker of complexity passing through her eyes.

The two went downstairs to the dining room.

Spencer was sitting at the table eating breakfast. Seeing Evelyn, he immediately waved. "Cousin, Third Uncle is fine now. I need to go to school too. I just checked on him; the doctor said he's sleeping soundly!"

Evelyn acknowledged with a hum.

She and Alexander sat down opposite Spencer.

A servant brought breakfast. Evelyn cut a piece of beef and spoke casually. "Dad being able to escape danger this time is all thanks to Nicole."

Spencer was taken aback. "What do you mean?"

Evelyn said calmly, "We tested her yesterday, and she told us everything. It was like giving us information for free."

Alexander added, "She was panicked at the time. Being locked up there, it's hard not to be tense... But we really should thank her. Be a bit nicer to her later."

Evelyn nodded. "I know."

But Spencer frowned. "Nicer? She's a bad person! Cousin, don't listen to Mr. Vance. You need to be tough when necessary! I think Nicole is definitely afraid of death. Interrogate her properly, make her spill everything she knows!"

After saying this, he stood up and wiped his mouth. "I'm leaving first. I have class today. Natalie is waiting for me at the entrance..."

Evelyn raised an eyebrow. "Where is she waiting?"

A blush spread across Spencer's face. "Right at the entrance. Insists on driving me to school... She's been sticking close lately, says she wants to have a daughter with me... These things can't just happen on demand!"

Evelyn immediately looked at him. "How far have you two progressed?"

Spencer's face instantly turned crimson. "Y-you, don't talk nonsense! We're in love! I'm leaving!"

The pure-hearted young man fled in embarrassment.

Evelyn couldn't help but laugh.

After breakfast, she and Alexander drove to the Special Operations Division.

Grace was already at work. Seeing them, she led them towards the interrogation room.

On the way, Grace said, "Last night, my colleagues and I interrogated Nicole all night. She kept her mouth shut, wouldn't say anything."

She sighed. "The main issue is we know too little about the Sterling Family. We can't ask the key questions. But we didn't let her sleep, kept her awake the whole time. That dulls the mind, weakens psychological defenses. It should help your interrogation."

Evelyn nodded. "You've worked hard."

"What's that? Interrogating suspects for three days and nights without sleep is common practice." Grace yawned, leading Evelyn to the interrogation room door and sitting down on a bench in the corridor. "I'll nap here for a bit. You go in. Call me when you're done."

"Okay."

Evelyn pushed the door open and entered.

Inside the interrogation room, Nicole was drowsy.

Two strong lights shone on her, making it impossible for her to close her eyes.

After a night, she looked haggard, her face oily, dark circles prominent under her eyes. Hearing movement, she turned her head woodenly. Seeing Evelyn, she turned back with the same numbness.

Evelyn walked over to her and turned off the two lights.

The sudden comfort made Nicole's eyes redden. Her whole body relaxed.

Then, Evelyn's voice sounded. "My father is fine now. Thank you for the antidote."

Nicole's head snapped up, hatred flashing in her eyes. "Rabbit, we all underestimated you! Thought you gave up the heir position just to be an ordinary person. Never imagined you've been hiding all these years!"

Evelyn looked at her. "If I said I'm truly not interested in being the heir, I just want to rescue my mother, would you believe me?"

"Hah, you think I'm a fool?"

Nicole stared at her resentfully. "Your grandmother was with Old Man Castillo, gave birth to your mother. Your mother was with Mr. Valentine, gave birth to you... Isn't that enough to show your ambition? I lost to you because I don't have such a powerful mother! I'm fighting alone with my anger, while you have three generations of effort behind you!"

Evelyn lowered her gaze.

She knew Nicole spoke the truth.

Without her grandmother paving the way, the Castillo family matter would indeed be difficult.

Evelyn looked at her. "Nicole, do you want to pledge loyalty to me?"

Nicole was stunned. "What did you say?"

Evelyn said seriously, "Thinking about it, you haven't really done anything heinous. You just poisoned my father, but in the end, because of you, he was saved. I can give you one chance. One chance to pledge loyalty to me."

Nicole's eyes widened. "On what grounds?"

Evelyn replied calmly, "On the grounds that my grandmother started paving the way for me. On the grounds of three generations of effort. Your one generation can't compare to me. Isn't that what you just said?"

Nicole was speechless for a moment, then sneered. "You think Fox is just one generation of effort? Wanting me to pledge loyalty to you? Dream on!"

A glint flashed in Evelyn's eyes. She smiled. "But you have no choice now."

Nicole paused. "What do you mean?"

"The fact that you saved my father, I've already spread the word. I said you actively saved him. How do you think Fox will react when she hears? You revealing the truth about the poison is the best proof of your allegiance to me, isn't it?"

Nicole's face changed dramatically. "Evelyn Ross, you're shameless! When did I actively tell you?!"

"That's not important. What's important is whether Fox will believe you."

Evelyn looked at her composedly. "If Fox wins, do you think she'll forgive you?"

Nicole's breathing grew heavier. "You..."

"She won't. A creature like Fox, once betrayed, never gives a second chance. But I will."

Nicole was stunned, clearly wavering. "I... can't betray Fox."

Evelyn leaned forward. "I don't need you to betray her. I just need you to tell me some basic information—where exactly is the Sterling Family? What is the Sterling Family's secret? How do they predict the future? And how do they control so many prominent families globally?"
