Chapter 612
Nicole narrowed her eyes.
Her gaze was locked on Evelyn's face.
"Some of what you're asking, I know. Some, I don't."
Evelyn immediately said, "Then tell me what you know."
Nicole gave a slight smirk.
"How does the Sterling Family predict the future? That's the secret of the head of the family. Only after the heir selection ends, and the most outstanding one is chosen, will the Sterling Family pass on this ability."
She paused, her tone laced with sarcasm.
"As for how they control so many prominent families globally? Of course, it's through power."
"Power?" Evelyn frowned. "How could the Sterling Family possibly have that much money?"
"How could they not?" Nicole scoffed. "It seems you really don't remember anything."
She leaned forward slightly.
"Do you know just how much wealth the Sterling Family possesses?"
Evelyn was silent for a moment.
"How much?"
"I don't know."
Evelyn: "..."
"My 'I don't know' is because I'm too shallow to even imagine that number." Nicole stared at her. "But your 'I don't know' is literally not knowing, right?"
She shook her head.
"With you like this, how could you possibly win? How can I believe in you?"
Evelyn met her gaze.
"Tell me where the Sterling Family is."
Nicole suddenly smiled.
"I can tell you. But you have to agree to one condition."
"What condition?"
"Let me leave the United States."
Evelyn's pupils contracted.
"Impossible. You are currently a prisoner. Your crimes are already on record."
"I don't care about that." Nicole leaned back, her eyes bloodshot from staying up all night. "That's your problem to solve, Rabbit. If you don't even have that much capability, then there's no need for us to negotiate."
Evelyn stared at her intently.
Nicole spread her hands.
"Can you do it?"
"No."
"But Fox can."
Nicole suddenly leaned in close, her voice dropping low.
"I know I'm not smart enough. But it took Fox a long time to win me over back then. I understand her. She won't just leave me locked up here. She will definitely come to rescue me."
Evelyn stared at her.
"You're that confident?"
"Of course." Nicole smiled. "Because me being out there is more beneficial to her than me staying here."
Evelyn's jaw tightened.
She didn't know why Nicole was so certain.
Could it be...
Nicole's smile deepened.
"You think Fox doesn't have a backup plan?"
As soon as the words left her mouth, intense arguing erupted outside the door.
A sharp male voice rang out.
"Grace, you can't even protect yourself, and you're still defending the person inside? The interrogation room has surveillance cameras. Do you Lorenz family members just do whatever you want?"
Grace's voice was filled with anger.
"What nonsense are you talking about?"
Evelyn immediately looked at Nicole.
Nicole let out a deep sigh.
"See? Fox has made her move. Your good friend is probably in trouble."
Evelyn's pupils constricted sharply.
She stood up abruptly and pulled open the interrogation room door.
Outside, the young man who had stopped Grace in the archives last time was standing in front of her with a few others, looking arrogant and overbearing.
"Grace, your grandfather is suspected of espionage. He's already been taken away by the higher-ups. Now you need to cooperate with the internal self-inspection of the Special Operations Division!"
Grace's face paled.
"What are you saying? That's impossible!"
Leo scoffed.
"The higher-ups just came to the department and took him away right in front of everyone. How could it be fake? It's said someone reported him. They've already found evidence of collusion with the enemy in your grandfather's office!"
Grace clenched her fists.
"There must be some misunderstanding! The first rule of our family's code is patriotism. My grandfather would never do such a thing!"
"Hah, with the evidence right there, you're still trying to deny it?" Leo lifted his chin. "My father is temporarily in charge of the Special Operations Division now, Grace. You'd better obediently confess everything you know. If your report is helpful, maybe they won't hold you responsible!"
Grace glared at him angrily.
"Since when did the Special Operations Division start implementing a system of collective punishment? Not to mention my grandfather hasn't even been convicted yet. Even if he is convicted, what responsibility do I have? Do you have evidence that I've done anything wrong? If you do, just arrest me! Why put on this hypocritical act here!"
Leo was left speechless.
"You...!"
Evelyn quickly walked to Grace's side.
"What's going on?"
Grace shook her head.
"I'm not sure yet."
She immediately said, "I need to go see my grandfather."
Evelyn followed.
"I'll go with you."
Grace looked at her, her expression complicated.
"I'm sorry. You probably can't continue the interrogation."
"I'm the one who should apologize." Evelyn sighed. "Maybe I'm the one who got you into this."
Grace was taken aback.
"What do you mean?"
"I suspect it's Fox's doing." Evelyn lowered her voice. "Nicole just said Fox is doing all this to get her out."
Grace's fists clenched even tighter.
"Then my grandfather..."
"Let's go see first."
Grace nodded.
The two walked right past Leo.
Leo sneered and followed them with his people.
Soon, they arrived in front of Benjamin's office.
The office was already cordoned off with police tape, forbidding anyone from entering.
Grace grabbed Benjamin's secretary.
"What on earth is going on?"
The secretary looked bewildered.
"I don't know either. Just now, some people came, went straight into the old gentleman's office, and found some information on his computer. It seemed to involve classified documents. The old gentleman was taken away."
Grace pressed further.
"What classified documents?"
The secretary sighed.
"It was chat records with foreign personnel, and records of the old gentleman providing them with classified information."
"This is definitely a setup!" Grace's voice trembled. "How could my grandfather have such things on his computer!"
The secretary pursed her lips.
"But..."
"But what?"
"But the old gentleman admitted it. He said he did send those things."
Grace froze in place.
"What?"
The secretary didn't dare say more.
"They're calling me over for questioning now. I have to go."
After the secretary was led away, Grace stared blankly at the office.
She turned and grabbed Evelyn's hand.
"Evelyn, my grandfather wouldn't do this..."
Evelyn nodded.
"I believe you."
She had known Grace for many years and had been to the Lorenz family home many times. The Lorenz family had strict principles, and the elders were all upright people.
Moreover, Benjamin was likely targeted by Fox.
There had to be some misunderstanding here.
Leo caught up with them again, bringing his people.
"You still have the mind to worry about others? Grace, let me tell you, you can't even protect yourself now!"
Grace glared at him.
"What have I done?"
"What have you done?" Leo pointed at Evelyn. "You privately brought an outsider into the Special Operations Division and even handed over the interrogation room to her to question a prisoner. That's a serious violation of discipline! You're fired!"
