Chapter 719

Evelyn looked at Alexander with disbelief.

Alexander tightened his grip on her hand.

"Evelyn, before Grandma left, perhaps she only had one regret left."

"What?"

"Not being able to see our child with her own eyes."

Evelyn fell silent.

Seeing that Alexander could finally make a joke, Evelyn felt a little lighter in her heart.

The atmosphere had indeed been too heavy.

She raised a smile.

"Alexander, let's be happy every day from now on, so Grandma can rest in peace, okay?"

"Okay."

"Come on, come with me to the kitchen to cook for Grandma."

Evelyn pulled Alexander downstairs.

Richard was holding his nose, looking disgusted as he cleaned.

Evelyn was in a great mood and called out loudly, "Grandma, this stinky kid and I are going to cook for you!"

Eleanor looked up, confused.

"Huh? Who are you?"

Evelyn laughed and dragged Alexander into the kitchen.

The two prepared a sumptuous lunch for the old lady.

When the food was served, Lillian and Cecilia arrived again.

During this period, the eldest branch had been stubbornly staying here, clearly trying to win over the old lady and get the shares.

They were being exceptionally attentive.

Lillian and Cecilia served with extra effort, practically wanting to feed the old lady themselves.

Eleanor was living quite comfortably.

Five days later.

As Evelyn came downstairs, she heard Robert speaking.

"Mom, your second uncle from the hometown is coming to see you today. Will you see him?"

"Second brother? Of course I'll see him."

Eleanor chuckled.

Robert seized the opportunity.

"Since Second Uncle is here, why don't we change the will in front of him, okay?"

"Why change it?" Eleanor was puzzled. "Didn't I leave everything to you and my eldest grandson?"

Richard stepped forward.

"You did, but we just want to make some adjustments. Don't you think that's good?"

"Alright, alright, change it then."

Eleanor agreed.

Robert smiled, but when he looked at Evelyn and Alexander, his face immediately darkened.

Richard lifted his chin, glancing smugly at Alexander, his eyes full of pride.

Soon, Elder Howard Vance arrived.

He was old, and the last time he came was when Eleanor was sick.

He had driven all day from his hometown to get here, and he looked a bit tired when he entered.

As soon as he stepped inside, he sensed something was off.

Alexander and Evelyn were sitting far away, while Robert and Richard were right next to the old lady.

In the past, Eleanor only had eyes for Alexander. When did it become the eldest branch's turn?

What was going on today?

Just as Elder Howard was wondering, Richard came forward to greet him.

"Second Grandfather, you came at the right time. Grandma's memory isn't good now. She only recognizes us, not Alexander anymore."

Elder Howard was taken aback and looked at Eleanor.

"Sister-in-law, do you still recognize me?"

"Of course I do!"

Eleanor laughed.

"Second brother, you're here!"

Elder Howard pointed at Alexander.

"Then how could you not recognize him? He's your most beloved grandson!"

Eleanor followed his pointing finger.

Seeing Alexander, she frowned.

"Whose child is this? So handsome! Even better looking than my eldest grandson!"

Alexander fell silent.

Richard also fell silent.

Elder Howard frowned deeply.

"What's going on? How could Sister-in-law not recognize Alexander?"

Robert immediately explained.

"Second Uncle, it's like this. After we moved to New York, Alexander spent a long time chasing his fiancée and rarely came home. With Mom's illness, if she doesn't see someone, she easily forgets them. So, she slowly forgot Alexander. On the other hand, Richard and his wife and daughter have been with the old lady every day, taking good care of her. The old lady likes them more now."

These words were clearly a complaint.

Implying that Alexander hadn't taken good care of the old lady.

Evelyn's face darkened.

When they first arrived in New York, Alexander did stay with her at the Sterling Family's house, and later at the Ashcroft's.

But whenever Alexander wasn't with her during the day, he would go home to be with Eleanor.

How could he have neglected her?

Robert was so old, yet still playing these petty family rivalry games.

As Evelyn was thinking this, Elder Howard looked at Richard.

"The eldest branch is taking care of her here? Wife and daughter? Isn't it wife and son?"

Lillian and Cecilia stiffened.

Richard cleared his throat awkwardly.

"Before, it was Margaret and Julian who were ignorant and made Grandma angry. I drove them out."
