Chapter 721
Eleanor Vance's words silenced everyone in the living room.
Richard Evans's eyes lit up, and he immediately looked at Elder Howard Vance. "Second Grandfather, you heard that, right? Grandma said she'll listen to us. So the will—"
"Your grandmother meant she'll listen to me," Elder Howard Vance interrupted him, his voice steady. "When your grandmother was lucid, she doted on Alexander the most. It was Alexander who brought the Vance Group to where it is today. Without him, the Vance family wouldn't even have a foothold in New York. I believe if your grandmother were still clear-minded, she would never change her will."
Richard grew anxious and turned to look at Robert Vance.
Robert cleared his throat. "Uncle, that's true. We all acknowledge Alexander's contributions. But my mother's will really does need to be revised. She can't possibly leave all her shares to Alexander and leave nothing for us, right?"
Richard immediately chimed in. "Exactly! Grandma holds twenty percent of the shares, and they're all currently held in trust by Alexander. Dad and I only want five percent. Is that too much to ask? Does Grandma really intend to leave us nothing?"
Elder Howard Vance frowned, his expression showing hesitation.
The atmosphere in the living room grew tense.
Elder Howard suddenly spoke. "Have you seen your grandmother's current will? Is that why you're in such a hurry to change it? Did she really leave no shares for you at all?"
Robert paused.
Of course, he hadn't seen it.
But with the old lady being so biased toward Alexander Vance, how could she possibly leave any shares for them? With just another five percent, they could surpass Alexander's shareholding ratio. Although ten percent of the Vance Group's shares were still unaccounted for, whoever held the most shares would have the strongest voice on the board.
How could the old lady not leave all her shares to Alexander?
As Robert was thinking, Elder Howard spoke again. "Perhaps we should go to the law firm to see the will first, then decide whether to change it."
Robert waved his hand dismissively. "Why bother looking? Let's just change it directly. Why go through the trouble—"
"We should look first," Elder Howard insisted. "You come with me to the law firm. The will has been kept by the law firm all along; they won't release it casually. If the will truly is too unfair to you, then I'll help your mother draft a new one."
Robert frowned.
Seeing Elder Howard's firm stance, he had no choice but to stand up. "Fine, I'll go."
Richard also stood up. "I'm coming too."
Robert glanced at him, his eyes sweeping over Alexander Vance and Evelyn Ross. He lowered his voice. "You stay here."
Richard immediately understood.
If only Lillian Evans and Cecilia Evans were left at home, and if Alexander and Evelyn tried to do something to the old lady, those two wouldn't be able to stop them.
Last time, it was Evelyn who produced the medicine and almost cured the old lady's Alzheimer's. This time, they were the ones forcibly preventing the treatment.
He had to stay and keep watch.
Richard nodded. "Alright, I'll stay."
Robert then looked at Alexander and snorted coldly. "Your Second Grandfather and I are going to see the will. You two better behave yourselves here. Don't get any funny ideas."
With that, he helped Elder Howard out the door.
Evelyn watched their departing figures, feeling nothing but irony.
Robert spoke to Richard like a loving father, but to Alexander, he spoke as if to an enemy.
Growing up in such an environment, it was no wonder Alexander was only close to his grandmother.
Evelyn took Alexander's hand.
Alexander gave her a faint smile, his gaze settling on Eleanor Vance.
Evelyn asked quietly, "Did Grandma leave all her shares to you in her will?"
If she had left them all to him, then Evelyn wouldn't need to produce the shares given by Alexander's mother.
Alexander was silent for a moment, then shook his head. "Probably not."
Evelyn was taken aback.
Alexander said calmly, "Grandma has always been fair. Although the main branch hasn't been very respectful toward her, they haven't done anything to harm her. She wouldn't leave them absolutely no shares."
Evelyn grew anxious. "Then what will you do?"
"No rush." Alexander gave a cold laugh, his tone carrying an undeniable air of authority. "I don't even care about the Vance Group itself, let alone a few shares."
