Chapter 734

Evelyn Ross was filled with confusion as she followed Mrs. Evans through the gates of the Truman family estate.

The Truman residence was vast, but the number of servants was surprisingly few.

As they walked, she only saw two or three figures busying themselves in the expansive courtyard.

Mrs. Evans noticed Evelyn's surveying gaze and softly explained, "The Truman family doesn't like being waited on by too many people. They are very down-to-earth and handle their daily lives themselves. From a young age, they are taught not to rely on Sterlingnies."

This lifestyle was indeed excessively low-key.

Natalie Castillo curled her lip. "Having money but not enjoying it. I really don't understand what the Trumans are thinking."

Mrs. Evans glanced at her and smiled. "The Truman family pursues spiritual freedom. They are never controlled by money."

Because they desired very little and had no greed, they would never sell their souls for money.

This kind of life was precisely what Evelyn yearned for.

She never sought great wealth or a top spot on any rich list.

She only wanted to live freely with her mother, unshackled by the Sterling Family.

How wonderful it would be to live like the Trumans.

A faint sense of envy stirred within her.

Mrs. Evans continued, "Before I married into the Evans family, the time I spent with the Truman family was actually the freest. Even when I liked Mr. Valentine, my parents didn't stop me. The Trumans weren't even very invested in controlling the Evans family..."

At this point, Mrs. Evans lowered her eyes. "It was your father, Mr. Valentine, who fell for someone else. So I simply married into the Evans family. After all, if it wasn't him, anyone else would do."

Mrs. Evans gave a bitter smile. "It could be considered a small contribution to the family."

Evelyn looked at Mrs. Evans in surprise.

She hadn't expected her to be such a romantic.

Unfortunately, her father could only belong to her mother.

Moreover, Mrs. Evans was likely just speaking casually. Her infatuation with her father was merely a youthful flutter. Evelyn could tell that the current Mrs. Evans was very happy.

Evelyn didn't respond.

Mrs. Evans went on, "The Truman family is very protective of their own. I think your issue is related to Cecilia Evans. But as for the specific reason, I'm not entirely clear."

Soon, Evelyn understood.

"Advanced-stage colon cancer?"

Evelyn exclaimed, looking at the medical report in her hand.

The man sitting opposite her was around twenty-seven or twenty-eight, wearing glasses and appearing very refined.

He was Cecilia Evans's husband, Aaron Truman.

Beside him sat the current head of the Truman family, Sebastian Truman, who appeared to be around thirty.

Sebastian sat elegantly on the sofa, his expression gentle and scholarly, carrying himself with grace and composure.

He lowered his gaze, looking at Evelyn, then at Aaron.

After Evelyn voiced her confusion, Sebastian had directly summoned Aaron, asking them to clarify matters face-to-face.

Evelyn appreciated this approach.

Aaron spoke directly. "The Truman family never engages in illegal activities. I applied for bail only after obtaining Cecilia's medical examination report. In such circumstances, it is permitted for her to be released."

Aaron looked at Evelyn. "Cecilia's condition requires her to maintain a happy state of mind. Besides, she doesn't have much time left. After her release, her only obsession is her deep resentment towards you."

Aaron sighed helplessly. "I know your family's cooperation with the Evans family is innocent. But as her husband, I must make a choice. I must also make her happy. I don't want her to leave this world with a heart full of sorrow. So, I hope Miss Ross can understand the Truman family's actions."

Evelyn fell silent.

She had thought a family like the Trumans, who exuded such integrity, wouldn't shield Cecilia Evans.

After all, the Trumans hadn't intervened during the Evans family's struggle for shares.

They hadn't intervened when Cecilia was imprisoned.

So this was the reason all along!

Everyone has their own priorities and loyalties.

Moreover, in business, besides profit, fate and connections also matter.

As a man, Aaron's wife's only request was to cease cooperation with Evelyn. She hadn't asked him to seek revenge.

This was a reasonable request for Aaron, so of course he agreed.

Evelyn's jaw tightened.

Beside them, Sebastian spoke. "Miss Ross, you now know the reason. Our Truman family will no longer cooperate with you. Therefore, let's consider our partnership concluded. If there's nothing else, please leave."

Evelyn frowned, looking at Sebastian.

She glanced at Alexander Vance.

Alexander gave a slight shake of his head.

Evelyn sighed, preparing to leave.

But just as she stood up, Natalie suddenly spoke with a playful smile. "Mr. Truman, are you familiar with the Sterling Family?"

Sebastian paused, his gaze shifting to Natalie. "You are?"

"I am from the Sterling Family. You should know that the Sterling Family possesses the ability to foresee the future." Natalie's words were shocking. "Within a week, you will die."
