Chapter 750
Evelyn Ross risked her life to save them for three reasons.
First, she was certain that Alexander Vance's modified car was safer than a regular vehicle.
Second, lives were at stake. She couldn't just stand by and watch two people die.
Third, she needed to preserve Sebastian Truman and Mia Truman's car.
She had to determine if this crash was truly an accident, or if someone had tampered with it.
To be honest, she still had doubts about the Sterling Family's affairs.
From childhood, she had received a scientific education.
She had even carved out a name for herself in the field of scientific research.
She would rather believe in the existence of aliens than in some mystical prophecy.
In her view, talk of ghosts and gods was all nonsense.
Yet today's car crash precisely validated Natalie Castillo's words.
The Sterling Family's prophecy seemed to hold some weight...
But was it a genuine prophecy coming true?
Or had the Sterling Family secretly orchestrated events to create the illusion of prophetic power?
Evelyn remembered the time in San Francisco.
She and her sister Grace Sterling had just met when they were drugged and taken by the Sterling Family.
They were thrown into the sea.
Her sister lost her life because of it.
Afterward, she and Alexander investigated.
They found all surveillance footage had been erased.
Every trace had vanished without a shadow.
This was enough to prove the Sterling Family had immense power and reach.
So, could the Sterling Family be an organization like this—
One with the capability to make all its "prophecies" come true, thereby intimidating the world?
Evelyn had several abrasions on her arms, burning with pain.
But she seemed completely unaware of them.
Sebastian Truman saw her approaching quickly and stopped walking.
Evelyn asked, "How is it?"
Sebastian said, "Mia and I are fine."
"...I was asking about the car."
Sebastian fell silent for a moment.
He lowered his eyes. "The front is damaged, but the brake pads should be fine."
"That's good."
Evelyn uttered these three words and immediately headed for the sports car.
Mia Truman had just climbed out of the car.
Seeing Evelyn, she excitedly grabbed her hand.
"Savior! You're like a second parent to me and my brother! Thank you for saving us!"
But Evelyn sidestepped her, bending down to crawl under the car.
Her wrist was suddenly grabbed by Alexander Vance.
Evelyn looked back.
Alexander said, "I'll check."
"Alright."
Evelyn stood to the side, only then feeling the burning pain in her arm.
She glanced down.
Her sleeve was torn, and blood had seeped through.
She casually shook her arm, as if she could shake off the pain.
Mia and Sebastian watched this scene in silence.
This woman... didn't she know what fear was? Or what pain was?
They had just escaped death, and their legs were still weak.
During the near-death experience, adrenaline had surged, masking the pain.
But now, coming down from it, waves of pain were hitting them.
Mia grimaced in pain, wishing she could get a painkiller shot immediately.
The impact injuries, plus several cuts and scrapes, brought tears to her eyes.
Looking at her older brother Sebastian, he was clearly also enduring pain, his movements stiff.
Though his expressionless face showed nothing—he was always one to keep his emotions hidden, which was normal.
But Evelyn was a woman. How could she be like this?
Mia took out her phone and called for an ambulance.
She then rummaged in the trunk for the first aid kit, disinfecting her own and her brother's wounds first.
Sebastian glanced meaningfully at Evelyn.
Mia immediately walked over with iodine swabs.
"Miss Ross, would you like to treat your wounds?"
"Minor injuries. No need."
Evelyn's four flat words shut Mia down.
Mia wanted to say more, but Evelyn had already pulled her phone from her back pocket.
She opened the camera and began taking pictures around the sports car.
Her demeanor was calm, her movements efficient, keeping Mia from finding an opening to help.
Mia was left speechless.
She simply soaked a cotton swab with iodine, preparing to disinfect Evelyn's wounds directly.
But just as she approached, Evelyn suddenly crouched lower—
She lay flat on the ground and slid under the car.
She began inspecting the braking mechanism on the wheels.
Mia stood frozen in place, cotton swab in hand.
For a moment, she didn't know what to do.
An indeterminate amount of time passed.
Evelyn and Alexander emerged from under the car and from inside the car simultaneously.
Alexander's hands were black, covered in grease and grime.
Evelyn's face and clothes were also dirty.
Mia felt she finally had a chance to speak.
She opened her mouth. "Miss Ross—"
"How is it?"
"How is it?"
Evelyn and Alexander spoke at the same time, cutting her off.
The two exchanged a glance.
Evelyn asked Alexander, "What caused the brake failure inside the car?"
Alexander looked at her and suddenly smiled.
"Didn't you just check the wheel brake pads? You should have an answer in mind."
"Correct."
Evelyn and Alexander looked at each other, speaking the answer simultaneously.
