Chapter 751
"It was sabotage!"
"It was sabotage!"
They spoke in unison.
Alexander Vance looked at Evelyn Ross.
Evelyn's tone was calm. "The brake pads on the wheels were tampered with."
Alexander nodded. "Not just the brake pads. The brake pedal was also rigged."
They exchanged a glance.
"This car crash was no accident."
Evelyn frowned. "Was someone targeting the Truman family? Or is the Sterling Family upholding the prophecy?"
Alexander replied coolly, "Unclear. The Truman family needs to investigate themselves."
Evelyn was silent for a moment.
"At least one thing is verified."
Alexander said, "Hmm. The Sterling Family's prophecy, whether true or false, ensures that whatever is spoken will happen."
Evelyn said, "I'm hungry."
"Your wound needs tending too. Let's go."
As they spoke, they got into Alexander's car.
The car drove away from the scene.
Mia Truman stood rooted to the spot, stunned.
She and her brother hadn't even thanked them yet.
They just left?
She turned to look at Sebastian Truman.
Sebastian was also staring in the direction the car had gone, his expression blank.
Mia asked, "Big brother, what do we do now?"
Sebastian snapped back to reality, his face darkening. "Didn't you hear? Someone tried to harm us. We investigate. We must get to the bottom of this!"
"Oh."
Mia handed him the cotton swabs.
Sebastian said, "My minor injuries don't need treatment."
Mia said, "I meant for you to help treat mine."
Sebastian: "..."
The rescue team arrived quickly.
The car was towed away.
Sebastian and Mia were escorted by family to the hospital for check-ups.
The results came back. Both had only superficial injuries.
That evening, they returned to the Truman residence.
Aaron Truman and Cecilia Evans waited anxiously.
Seeing Aaron, Sebastian seemed hesitant to speak.
Aaron spoke first. "Big brother, I understand. Miss Ross saved you. The cooperation with the Valentine family will continue."
Sebastian paused, then looked at Cecilia.
Cecilia's face was unpleasant, but she didn't dare speak.
Sebastian lowered his gaze. "Miss Ross saving us wasn't for the sake of cooperation."
Otherwise, they would have presented conditions immediately after the rescue.
But they left without a single word.
Evelyn Ross was not someone who would leverage a life debt.
But just because the other party asked for nothing in return, he couldn't owe two lives.
Sebastian spoke. "We'll discuss cooperation later. First, investigate the crash."
Mia immediately nodded. "Right! I want to know who tried to hurt me!"
The Vance Residence.
Natalie Castillo gnawed on a chicken wing, watching Alexander tend to Evelyn's wound.
She smirked. "Playing the hero."
Evelyn ignored her.
Natalie leaned closer. "I know you went to verify the prophecy. But I'm telling you, the Sterling Family's prophecies have never failed. It came true again today. You should believe in metaphysics."
"I don't believe it."
Evelyn looked up. "Everything can be orchestrated. The Sterling Family achieving a hundred prophecies over decades without a single miss—they can arrange that. It doesn't mean the prophecies are real."
Natalie tossed the bone and picked up another wing. "Then wait and see. The next time the Sterling Family opens its doors is still a long way off."
Evelyn didn't respond.
Alexander stared at her. "No more risks next time."
"I know. I didn't take a risk. I acted only when I was sure."
Along the way, Evelyn had lost count of how many times she'd answered this.
Alexander insisted. "Promise me. Not next time either."
"Fine, fine, fine."
Evelyn replied dismissively.
She felt Alexander was nagging like an old father.
Sensing her impatience, Alexander suddenly gripped her wrist, scooped her up into his arms, and carried her upstairs.
Evelyn exclaimed, "Hey! What are you doing?"
"Punishing you for not taking care of yourself."
"What kind of punishment?"
"No sleeping in the bed tonight."
"That's a punishment?"
"Hmm. We'll sleep on the couch together."
Evelyn hadn't expected this "sleeping" to be a verb.
She woke up the next day with an aching back and sore legs.
She tried to move, but Alexander pressed over her again.
Only after she promised not to take risks again did he let her go.
Just after waking, her phone received a message from an unknown number: [Miss Ross, this is Sebastian Truman. Please call back when you have time.]
Evelyn hesitated for a moment, then dialed back.
The call connected.
Sebastian's polite yet distant voice came through. "Miss Ross, we've identified the cause of the crash."
