Chapter 393

chapter393

Audrey seized the opportunity and quickly took out her phone to pay by scanning the code. She admired the shop owner's style so much that she intentionally rounded up the payment.

The shop owner beamed joyfully. He completely changed his cold demeanor and began showering Audrey with praises.

Seeing she was ignored, Lily was so furious she almost fainted. Pointing at the owner in rage, she said, "I'll remember this today, you better watch out in the future."

The shop owner seemed oblivious to Lily's threats. He still politely said, "Take care, Mrs. Oxman."

Lily, still harboring a belly full of harsh words, was furious. With no way to deal with the shop owner, she could only grit her teeth and mutter about making him pay in the future, then angrily turned around to leave.

But when she turned, whether she didn't see Sunny next to her or did it on purpose, she bumped hard into him.

Sunny had a dazed look on his face ever since Lily appeared. There was no time to dodge before the collision, and he ended up sitting on the ground with a thud.

Seeing Sunny knocked down, Audrey scolded with a stern face, "Stop right there! How can you walk like that and not even realize you hit a kid."

Before she could finish her sentence, Sunny's sharp and painful scream suddenly echoed in her ears.

Sunny sat on the ground. He held his head tightly with both hands and cried helplessly, "Don't come near me, don't hit me!" He wished he could curl up into a small ball. His voice was sharp and filled with despair.

Audrey felt like her heart was being stabbed as she hugged Sunny tightly.

But Lily, who had upset Sunny, had a look of disdain on her face. She patted her coat and remarked nastily, "Brat, what are you screaming about? No manners!" She even spit on the ground before strutting away.

Audrey couldn't afford to argue with Lily. She just held Sunny close, softly comforting him with a loving expression. She said, "Sunny, my dear, don't be scared. I am here. No one will hurt you ever again."

Her voice was gentle, but Sunny seemed even more agitated for some reason. He thrashed and screamed like a little animal cornered.

Audrey felt her heart twisting in pain.

The commotion attracted several tourists, and a crowd gathered at the store entrance, all craning their necks to look inside.

Audrey could only try her best to shield Sunny with her body.

Luckily, the store owner saw Sunny wasn't feeling well and quickly closed the door.

Only then did Audrey feel relieved. She gently comforted Sunny and skillfully massaged him, relaxing his tight muscles to prevent his body from stiffening.

Gradually, the crying weakened. Sunny's emotional outbursts were finally released, making him able to listen.

Audrey gently touched Sunny's tear-streaked face and softly said, "Sunny, don't be scared. No one's going to hurt you, really not."

Sunny grabbed her wrist tightly, like a drowning person holding onto a lifeline.

Audrey's face was full of concern. Sunny must have been provoked into losing control, but she wasn't sure what set him off.

She thought, 'Is it Lily's rudeness or the curious eyes of the onlookers? He's afraid of being hit. Could it be that Lily bumped into him too roughly, triggering some ba memories?

'But the whole Hayes family spoils Sunny like he's their most precious treasure.

So logically, no one would dare to even touch him.'

Unable to figure it out, Audrey put her doubts aside. She thanked the shop owner and took Sunny home. As for the screen she bought, Audrey asked the shop owner to help deliver it home.

Once Audrey got home, she found that even though Sunny wasn't screaming and crying anymore, he had become clingy. Whenever she left him even for a moment, he'd panic and immediately look for her.

If he couldn't find her in a second, his eyes would fill with tears, and he'd look as if

he were about to cry.
