Chapter 138

The afternoon sun cast golden rays through the floor-to-ceiling windows of Mooncrest Manor's sales office. Evelyn Thorne studied the miniature property models with careful precision, her fingers tracing the contours of each tiny house.

A well-dressed sales associate approached, eyeing her youthful appearance with mild skepticism. "What type of residence are you considering, Miss? We have single-family homes, luxury townhouses, and duplexes available."

"Do you still have any single-family homes?" Evelyn asked without looking up.

The associate's demeanor instantly brightened. "We have one remaining estate home - over three thousand square feet with premium finishes. Naturally, the price reflects its exclusivity..."

"Can we take immediate occupancy with full payment today?"

"Absolutely!" The associate beamed. "All our properties come turnkey ready with designer furnishings. You'd only need to bring your personal effects."

Evelyn finally met the woman's gaze. "The price?"

"Four point five million. It's our last estate lot in this community, so-"

Evelyn's attention drifted across the room where Clara cradled a sleeping Lily. Little Henry stood protectively beside them, his obsidian eyes scanning the space with quiet intensity.

"Show me the property," Evelyn decided.

As Evelyn followed the saleswoman, Henry remained vigilant. Dressed in a crisp white tee and dark jeans, the boy's delicate features belied his serious nature. A sales associate offered him chocolates with a practiced smile.

"How old are you, sweetheart?"

"What's your name?"

"Is that your baby sister with grandma?"

Henry turned away silently. Clara offered an apologetic smile. "He's rather reserved with strangers."

The associate nodded understandingly, admiring Lily's peaceful face. "You have a beautiful family."

When Evelyn returned, her expression was decisive. "It's suitable. Shall we proceed?"

Clara frowned. "It's quite extravagant. Your father's first home cost less than half a million."

Evelyn chuckled. "That was decades ago, Mother." She produced a black credit card with effortless grace.

Within the hour, paperwork was complete. As the Thorne family departed, whispers followed them.

"Did you see? Full cash payment!"

"So young with two children... must be married to money."

"With that face? I'm not surprised."

At their new estate, Clara settled Lily in the master suite while Henry stood guard. "Henry darling," Clara said softly, "I'm going to market for supper. Watch your sister for me?"

The boy gave a solemn nod, his small frame radiating quiet responsibility as Clara departed.
