Chapter 217

Zoe Montgomery had set her sights on Dominic Blackwood as her ticket to the upper echelons of society.

Being a skilled doctor was no longer her priority—she craved the prestige and power that came with being at the top.

She knew her limitations. No matter how hard she worked, she would never reach the level of expertise of Professor Sebastian Whitmore.

The medical field could only take her so far.

But marrying Dominic? That would change everything.

She would become the woman everyone envied.

Dominic had barely settled into his study when Lucas Grant called.

"Hey, Dominic. How did things go at the school?"

"The kid didn’t bring his laptop today. I’m guessing Evelyn took it away from him."

"So it really was Evelyn’s son? He’s only four, right? Some kind of prodigy?" Lucas sounded fascinated.

Dominic didn’t respond.

"What are you planning to do with the kid?" Lucas pressed.

The whole situation amused him.

It would’ve been dull if the hacker had turned out to be some random adult.

Who would’ve thought the person who crippled Blackwood Group’s entire network was a four-year-old?

"And why did he challenge you to strangle him?" Lucas continued, laughing. "Why don’t you ask him yourself if you’re so curious? He ignores me," Dominic muttered.

"Hahaha! This kid’s got attitude! I have to meet him."

"Not happening."

What Henry had done was wrong, but he was… special.

Dominic wouldn’t punish him, and he certainly wouldn’t let Lucas harass him at school.

"Evelyn’s birthday is coming up. What if they invite us to the party? Then I’d get to see the kid," Lucas suggested eagerly. "You should get her a gift in advance. Sure, you’re divorced, but you two had history. You’re not going to be petty and ignore her birthday, right?"

Dominic’s sharp eyes narrowed. "Do you really think she’d accept anything from me?"

"She was civil enough at lunch yesterday. Even if it was just because we had leverage."

"There’s no point—"

"Come on, how expensive could a gift be? If you’re too proud, I’ll give it to her myself. I really want to meet that kid," Lucas insisted.

After a brief silence, Dominic relented. "Fine. What would be appropriate?"

"Jewelry. Women love that stuff."

"Jewelry is too personal. We’re divorced."

"Then what? You can’t give her something cheap—she’s a millionaire now."

Dominic pinched the bridge of his nose. "Fine. Jewelry it is."

Outside the study door, Zoe’s fingers clenched around her phone, her chest burning with jealousy.

For her birthday, Dominic had his assistant send a handbag worth a few thousand dollars.

Now? He was buying Evelyn expensive jewelry.

Who was his real girlfriend?

How could he do this to her?

She was the only one who could save Sophia now!

Her vision blurred with fury as she pulled out her phone and texted her father.

(Evelyn Thorne has two children. Find out where she adopted them in Bridgedale—and why.)
