Chapter 169

Evelyn cradled Lily in her arms as the little girl pointed a chubby finger at her brother. "Henry brought me here."

"Oh... Henry, how did you know where I was?" Evelyn's lips curved into a soft smile, though exhaustion weighed heavily on her. She didn't scold him. "Did you ask Uncle Lucas to track my phone?"

Henry nodded.

Uncle Lucas had been the one to teach him how to hack.

Evelyn had no idea just how skilled he'd become.

"Let's go home," she murmured, her thoughts sluggish. "I'm so tired."

She stepped out of the hospital with both children in tow and hailed a cab. The moment she slid into the backseat, sleep claimed her.

At 11:20 a.m., Zoe Montgomery received a call from an unknown number. The voice on the other end instructed her to go to St. Elizabeth Medical Center.

When she arrived, she found Sophia.

The young woman lay motionless, her head wrapped in bandages, her face alarmingly pale.

Two hours later, Dominic Blackwood's phone rang.

"Mr. Blackwood, I found Sophia! She's at the hospital—I just performed brain surgery on her!" Zoe's voice trembled with excitement.

In those two hours, she had scanned Sophia's brain and discovered evidence of an incredibly precise operation.

When she questioned the nurses, none could name the surgeon.

Seizing the opportunity, Zoe commandeered the operating theater, pretending to be busy.

Once enough time had passed, she called Dominic and claimed full credit.

After all, if the real surgeon hadn't left a name, who could prove her wrong?

Dominic rushed to St. Elizabeth Medical Center.

The moment he saw Sophia, the frantic pounding of his heart eased.

"Dr. Montgomery, what happened?" He gripped Zoe's arm, his voice rough with emotion.

She placed a reassuring hand over his. "Sophia had collapsed. A Good Samaritan brought her in. I happened to know one of the directors here, and when he heard I was back in Eldermere working for you, he contacted me immediately."

Dominic didn't question her story, though something still nagged at him.

"Why did you operate on her so quickly?"

"Her condition was critical. A single second of delay could have been fatal. I had to act fast—that's why I didn't call you sooner." The lie slipped out smoothly, though guilt prickled beneath her skin.

"Thank you." His eyes glistened.

Finding Sophia alive—and stable—was nothing short of a miracle.

The past two days had been hell.

But now, she was safe.

"Mr. Blackwood, should we transfer her to a better facility? The conditions here aren't ideal for recovery," Zoe suggested.

Dominic nodded. "I'll arrange it now."

A satisfied smile touched her lips.

"Dr. Montgomery, I can't thank you enough." His gratitude was genuine. "Did you see the person who brought her in? I’d like to thank them personally."

"By the time I arrived, they were already gone. If they wanted recognition, they would have stayed."

Dominic exhaled. "You're right."

One hundred and fifty-five million.

Who in their right mind would walk away from that kind of reward?

He needed to find this mystery person.

After transferring Sophia to a private hospital, Dominic called his team. "Pull the surveillance footage from St. Elizabeth’s main entrance. I want every frame from this morning."
