"Dominic, do I have my own ID card?" Sophia asked, her eyes wide with curiosity.
"Why are you asking about this suddenly?" Dominic responded, glancing at her.
"Because everyone has one, and I want mine too."
"You do have one, but it's kept at home."
"Oh... Can you give it to me when we go back?" Sophia smiled hopefully.
"Why do you need it?" Dominic guided her to an empty seat.
"It's my ID, so I should keep it with me." Sophia opened her purse and pulled out a brand-new phone. "Look, Dominic, I bought this myself. Now I can make calls."
Dominic raised an eyebrow and turned to the bodyguard standing nearby.
The bodyguard quickly explained, "Miss Sophia purchased it yesterday while shopping. She even registered a SIM card using Mrs. Whitaker's ID."
Sophia had changed so much that Dominic was momentarily stunned. Pride swelled in his chest. "Sophia, you can register a SIM card with your own ID now."
"Okay! When are we going home?" She practically bounced in her seat with excitement.
"We'll leave after lunch. Don’t worry, your ID is safe with me."
Sophia nodded eagerly and turned on her phone. "Dominic, can you show me how to use it?"
"Of course," he replied, his voice patient.
"Evelyn, stop staring. Your eyes are about to fall out of your head," Michael teased, waving a hand in front of her face.
Evelyn blinked and looked away, embarrassed.
Dominic was teaching Sophia how to use her phone, his demeanor gentle and attentive. It had been so long since Evelyn had seen him like this that she couldn’t help but watch.
She took a sip of water from her glass, trying to hide the unease creeping up her throat.
"Where’s Eric? He should be sitting next to you, right?" Michael checked his watch.
Evelyn nodded. "What did you all do yesterday at the mansion? Did you have fun?" Michael refilled her glass as she finished the water.
"I slept most of the time."
"Oh? Did you eat anything?"
"I had some spicy chicken soup." Just the memory of it made her stomach growl.
She had eaten breakfast earlier, but it hadn’t stayed down for long. If it weren’t for Sophie’s wedding, she wouldn’t have bothered. This pregnancy’s morning sickness was relentless.
"I talked to Nathan last night," Michael lowered his voice, leaning in. "I told him I’ve never seen you diet before, and you’re not seeing anyone, yet you refuse to eat... Guess what he said?"
Evelyn’s pulse quickened at the knowing look on Michael’s face.
"He said women lose their appetite when they’re pregnant. His sister was the same way—she couldn’t keep anything down."
Before Michael could finish, Evelyn clapped a hand over her mouth, gagging.
Michael froze in shock.
"Mom!" Lily shrieked, alarmed.
Henry immediately grabbed the tissue box and handed one to Evelyn.
Dominic heard Lily’s cry and turned sharply. His dark eyes locked onto Evelyn, and before he knew it, he was striding toward her.
Why did Lily scream? What’s wrong with Evelyn?
"I’m fine," Evelyn managed, though the nausea lingered. The way she looked at Michael was tinged with guilt.
Michael had already pieced it together. Her expression gave her away.
She was pregnant.
Wedding staff rushed over, calling for a doctor, but Evelyn waved them off. "I’m okay, really."
They hesitated but eventually left after confirming she wasn’t in distress.
Dominic remained beside her, studying her carefully. Her makeup masked any paleness, but he couldn’t shake the feeling something was off.
