Chapter 353

Michael shared his brilliant plan with Nathan.

Nathan shook his head. "Mr. Blackwood won't be intimidated. Sophia's caretaker and security detail never leave her side. Moving her to Evelyn's place would just be changing residences."

Michael looked perplexed.

Nathan continued, "Mr. Blackwood won't hurt Evelyn. You have my word on that."

"How can you be so sure?" Michael challenged.

"If you don't trust me, fine! I'm at the hospital with Zoe right now. She still hasn't regained consciousness," Nathan replied.

Michael's tension eased slightly. "How is she doing?"

"She's been in a coma since the transfusion."

"Evelyn insists she didn't push Zoe. What do you think Zoe's game is?" Michael pondered. "Could the baby not have been Dominic's?"

"Of course you'd take Evelyn's side. The truth isn't always clear," Nathan said objectively.

Michael chuckled darkly. "I'm betting that child wasn't Dominic's. If it had been his, she would've fought tooth and nail. She wouldn't have gone down from one little push. You should get Dominic to demand a paternity test."

"Can't be done. Zoe's father took the remains from the hospital."

Michael burst into laughter.

"This isn't funny. Zoe's still fighting for her life. Regardless of paternity, it's irrelevant now," Nathan said sharply. "The child is gone."

"How is that irrelevant? Evelyn's being falsely accused!" Michael snapped.

"Don't be so dramatic. Mr. Blackwood never wanted that child. Now that it's gone, he might even thank Evelyn!" Nathan countered. "Evelyn's not home right now - shouldn't you be watching the kids?"

"We hired security."

"Then just wait at Mr. Blackwood's office! I've checked everywhere. No one knows where he is either."

Michael's brow furrowed with concern.

"By the way, I heard some news today." Before hanging up, Nathan suddenly remembered. "Margaret sold her overseas cosmetics company. Cashed out for four hundred fifty million. Looks like she's preparing to return."

"That witch! When she comes back, I'll make sure she regrets it!"

"Don't underestimate her. Margaret's shrewd. If she's returning, she's got a plan. Warn Evelyn to be careful," Nathan advised, then changed subjects. "You should go home! Camping at Mr. Blackwood's office is pointless."

"Always protecting your boss!" Michael growled before ending the call.

Meanwhile, Evelyn lay exhausted in the hotel suite, convinced she might not survive the night.

The hunger gnawed at her, but Dominic's relentless attentions were worse. He seemed to possess boundless energy when it came to tormenting her.

At two AM, a knock interrupted them. Dominic stilled. Evelyn hastily pulled the sheets over herself.

Donning a robe, Dominic went to the door.

"Mr. Blackwood, Miss Montgomery has regained consciousness. She's asking for you," the bodyguard reported.

Dominic glanced back at the disheveled bed. "Stay here. Don't let her leave."

"Yes, sir!"

Evelyn's eyes burned with fury. He'd had his fill of her! Why not release her now?

"Dominic! You can't keep me prisoner here!" Wrapping the sheet around herself, she staggered from the bed, her body aching.

Dominic swept her up effortlessly, depositing her back on the mattress.

His distinctive scent enveloped her as he murmured, "I'll release you after twenty-four hours. What if you take emergency contraception? Then tonight's efforts would be wasted."
