Chapter 403
The man holding Henry by the throat was Dominic!
Dominic had his hands wrapped around Henry's neck, choking him mercilessly!
Evelyn must be hallucinating. There was no way Henry could be here. She'd had this nightmare before - too many times to count.
Five years ago, Dominic had vowed to kill any child she bore him. That threat had haunted her dreams ever since.
In her nightmares, she'd seen Dominic torture their children in countless horrifying ways.
This exact scene had played out in her mind repeatedly over the years.
But this time felt different. The scene before her eyes was terrifyingly real.
Henry struggled desperately, his backpack hitting the floor with a heavy thump.
Evelyn blinked rapidly. Suddenly, reality crashed over her like a tidal wave. Her blood ran cold.
This wasn't a dream. This was really happening!
"Dominic! Stop!" she screamed, her voice raw with panic. She tried to scramble off the bed, but her injured legs betrayed her.
After a brief struggle with the sheets, she tumbled to the floor in a heap.
Tears burned her eyes as she grabbed Dominic's pant leg with shaking hands. "Dominic! You can't do this! He's your—" A violent coughing fit cut her off.
Blood splattered from her lips, staining both her hospital gown and Dominic's expensive trousers.
The sight of her distress seemed to snap Dominic out of his rage. His grip loosened.
Henry collapsed to the ground, gasping for air. His face was still blue as he crawled toward Evelyn.
"Mommy!" Henry threw his arms around her, tears streaming down his face. "Mommy, are you okay?"
Remarkably, Henry hadn't shed a single tear while being strangled. But seeing Evelyn cough up blood destroyed his composure.
Evelyn released Dominic's pants and pulled Henry close. "Henry, baby, are you hurt? Tell me you're okay," she murmured between shaky breaths. The thought of what might have happened if she'd woken even a second later made her stomach churn.
"I'm fine, Mommy! But you're bleeding!" Henry reached up with trembling fingers to wipe the blood from her chin.
Evelyn caught his small hand and exhaled shakily. "Why are you here? Who brought you? Was it Michael? Where is he?"
She needed Henry out of this hospital immediately. Dominic was too dangerous. She couldn't risk a repeat of what just happened.
Henry shook his head, avoiding her gaze. "I came alone. Lily and I were so worried about you."
Evelyn pulled him into a crushing hug, her usual icy demeanor melting away completely.
Dominic watched this emotional reunion with growing irritation. Without a word, he stormed out of the room.
Moments later, doctors rushed in. They gently separated Henry from Evelyn and helped her back into bed.
Henry stood by the bedside, his small hands clenched into fists as he took in the extent of Evelyn's injuries. Bandages covered her legs completely, and her forehead bore fresh stitches.
What had that monster done to his mother?
"Dominic will pay for this," Henry thought fiercely, wiping his tears angrily.
With determined fingers, he pressed the emergency button on his smartwatch.
