Chapter 49

"Mr. Blackwood, should you be walking without your wheelchair?" Nathan asked with concern.

He knew Dominic had deliberately left the wheelchair behind today, not wanting any hindrance during his date with Evelyn. Rolling a wheelchair would have undoubtedly ruined the romantic atmosphere.

What a pity Evelyn failed to appreciate his boss's considerate gesture.

Dominic brushed past Nathan and Lucas.

His face was stony as he bit out, "I'm fine."

"Come have drinks with us, Dominic!" Lucas grabbed his arm again. "Tristan Chamberlain's in town. Let's invite him along."

Dominic's thunderous expression worried Lucas.

Tristan was Bianca's older brother.

Lucas had been the one to call Tristan when Bianca angered Dominic.

The Chamberlain family business was headquartered in Ravenshore City.

As heir to the Chamberlain empire, Tristan spent most of his time there.

After a tense silence, Dominic refused. "No."

He strode toward the elevator. Though not particularly fast, his steps were steady and confident.

While his love life was in shambles, his physical recovery progressed remarkably well.

Dominic arrived home at seven-thirty that evening.

Mrs. Wilkins immediately presented Evelyn's gift. "Madam Evelyn prepared this for you, Master Dominic."

The weighty box made Dominic curious about its contents.

"Is she home?" he inquired.

"Yes," Mrs. Wilkins replied. "She returned to her room after dinner to work on her thesis."

Dominic's lips thinned as he examined the gift box.

Had she bought this after realizing her rudeness?

Everyone deserved a second chance.

Evelyn's gesture softened his anger slightly.

He carefully opened the box to reveal... a book.

Its title glared up at him: "The Art of Anger Management," featuring a vibrant ginseng plant on its cover.

Dominic's brows knitted together tightly.

Was this her idea of an apology?!

Did she genuinely want to make amends, or was she deliberately provoking him further?!

Mrs. Wilkins' smile vanished instantly upon seeing the book.

She mentally retracted all her earlier praise for Evelyn.

"Shall I fetch Madam Evelyn to explain? I'm certain she meant no offense," Mrs. Wilkins offered hastily.

"Forget it!" Dominic snapped through clenched teeth, slamming the book onto the table.

Upstairs, Evelyn flinched at the loud noise.

There was method behind her gift choice.

One of her professors had recommended this book, which she'd found genuinely insightful regarding mental and physical health connections.

It had broadened her perspective, showing how emotional balance could prevent certain illnesses.

Wasn't that valuable? Why was he angry again?

Did he consider her gift too inexpensive?

Her limited budget couldn't accommodate extravagant presents.

Evelyn's pulse quickened with anxiety. She debated whether to confront Dominic downstairs.

Just then, her door flew open, revealing Dominic's towering, muscular frame filling the doorway.
