Chapter 387
Zoe let out a piercing scream. "Evelyn! You're the most despicable woman I've ever met! How dare you twist the truth and pin this on me! If I really did it, why would I be so insane?"
"Oh, but you are insane!" Evelyn countered coolly, watching Zoe's dramatic performance with detached amusement. "Your little act won't last forever. The truth always comes out."
"What act? Evelyn! Explain yourself!" Zoe lunged forward violently. Evelyn swiftly dodged behind Dominic, refusing to engage with the hysterical woman. She wouldn't stoop to Zoe's level.
Dominic shot Evelyn an icy glare before stepping between them.
"Zoe, control yourself! This is a hospital!" he snapped. "My business with her isn't finished yet. Your petty feud can wait!"
With that, he seized Evelyn's arm and dragged her toward the elevators.
The moment they disappeared, Zoe's tears vanished instantly. Though her performance had been fake, her desire to strike Evelyn had been very real.
Julian approached silently, his voice thick with disgust. "Zoe, we're done. I can't stomach your cruelty anymore."
Glancing around the empty corridor, Zoe sneered, "Calling me cruel? That's rich coming from you! You're the one who pushed your grandmother, not me!"
"Your words mean nothing. If you hadn't been whispering poison in my ear every night—"
"If you were truly good, my words wouldn't have swayed you!" Zoe cut him off sharply. "It's too late for regrets now, Julian. The old woman's dead and can't talk. All we have to do is keep quiet and watch the show." Her composure returned instantly. "Your uncle won't let Evelyn off easily."
Julian swallowed hard. "I have no quarrel with Evelyn. She was my girlfriend once!"
Zoe arched an eyebrow. "Oh? Still carrying a torch? Then go confess to your uncle. Tell him you're the one who pushed his mother!"
Julian's face went pale. His terrified gaze shifted to something behind Zoe. She spun around just in time to receive a stinging slap across her face.
"You vile witch!" Gregory roared, his grief-stricken face contorted with rage. "You murdered my mother and poisoned my son's mind!"
Zoe clutched her stinging cheek, tasting blood. Why hit her when Julian was the actual culprit? But she bit back her fury - she couldn't challenge the Blackwoods now.
Julian dropped to his knees. "Father, I'm sorry! It was me! Please don't tell Uncle Dominic! He'll kill me! I never should have listened to this woman!"
Gregory kicked his son savagely. "I'd rather have a dog than a son like you! Get out! You're banished from the Blackwood family until I say otherwise!"
Terrified, Julian scrambled away, with Zoe quickly following.
Gregory's wife Beatrice trembled violently, her face ashen. Clutching her husband's arm, she pleaded, "Don't tell Dominic! If he finds out, he'll kill Julian and blame us too! Let him take his anger out on Evelyn instead!"
Gregory's eyes were bloodshot. "I'm afraid he might actually kill her."
"He won't!"
"How can you be sure? Have you forgotten how my father died?" Gregory choked back a sob, covering
