Chapter 335
"Lily's feeling dizzy, Mommy. She just needs to rest," Henry said, his voice calm and reassuring. "There's nothing to worry about."
"I see... That's good to hear. Take good care of your sister."
"I will."
After ending the call, Evelyn didn't return to her office.
Instead, she turned her car toward Mooncrest Manor.
She had already guessed the children weren't actually at home.
If she'd told Henry she was coming, they would have rushed back immediately.
This way, arriving unannounced, she could catch them if they were lying.
Evelyn suspected the children were using illness as an excuse for some secret plan.
Lily was usually more innocent, but she followed Henry's lead too easily.
Given Henry's history of mischief, Evelyn felt a growing unease in her chest.
She pulled into the driveway of Mooncrest Manor and hurried to the front door.
Her fingers flew over the security keypad before pushing the door open.
Almost immediately, Henry appeared in the hallway.
When their eyes met, the air between them crackled with unspoken tension.
Evelyn suddenly felt guilty.
How could she doubt her own children?
They were home after all.
Maybe Lily really wasn't feeling well.
"Henry, I was worried so I came to check on you both. How's your sister?" Evelyn asked softly, moving toward the children's bedroom.
"She's sleeping," Henry explained. "Don't worry, Mommy."
Evelyn nodded, then watched her daughter's peaceful sleeping form, gently touching her forehead.
No fever.
"Go back to work, Mommy!" Henry said, looking up at her with innocent eyes.
"I'll stay home with you today."
Evelyn realized she'd been neglecting the children lately with her busy schedule.
"Uncle Michael said there were important things at the company," Henry said pointedly. "You should go to work, Mommy!"
Evelyn's cheeks flushed with embarrassment.
"Don't worry. I'll handle everything quickly."
"Okay!" Henry walked her to the door.
The moment Evelyn left, Henry shut the door firmly behind her.
Instantly, Lily jumped out of bed.
"That was close, Henry!" Lily exhaled dramatically. "Thank goodness Uncle Michael warned us! Mommy would've been furious if she came home to an empty house!"
Henry's expression remained unreadable.
He grabbed his backpack, put on his cap, and said, "Stay here. I'm going alone."
"No way! I'm coming with you! I'll be scared staying by myself!"
Lily quickly grabbed her own bag and chased after her brother.
The siblings left their neighborhood and hailed a taxi.
Once inside, they gave the driver directions to an exclusive luxury hotel.
The very hotel where Dominic Blackwood's engagement party would be held tomorrow.
"Henry, you said you had a big surprise for Dirtbag Dad... What kind of surprise? How big is it?" Lily's bright eyes sparkled with curiosity.
"I can't tell you."
Lily pouted. "Why not?"
"It's not for kids."
