Chapter 450

No one forced Dominic to drink.

After he emptied the bottle, Lucas studied him with a frown. "Is your injury fully healed? Didn't the doctor say no alcohol for three months? It hasn't been that long yet, has it?"

Adrian overheard and quickly grabbed a bottle of juice.

"Dominic, have some juice instead!" He cleared the wine bottles from the table. "There's still food in the kitchen. Either of you hungry?"

Lucas finished his own drink and pulled Dominic toward the kitchen. The moment they left, the tension in the living room dissolved instantly.

Lucas poured a glass of juice and handed it to Dominic.

"If I'd known it would be this awkward, I wouldn’t have brought you," Lucas muttered, rubbing his temple. "Want me to take you back?"

Adrian hovered nearby. "You both drank—neither of you can drive. I booked an ambulance earlier. Maybe you could take that back?"

Both men stared at him, stunned.

Seeing their expressions, Adrian backtracked. "Or… if you don’t want to leave, you can stay. I rented eight mansions. Plenty of rooms."

Lucas blinked. "Why did you book an ambulance?"

"Evelyn skipped lunch today. Sophie had to help her upstairs. I was worried she might collapse, so I called one just in case." Adrian shrugged. "This place is in the middle of nowhere. Nearest hospital’s miles away."

Lucas frowned deeper. "Why didn’t she eat?"

"No idea. Sophie wouldn’t let me ask. Said I was on Dominic’s side." Adrian glanced at Dominic. "Not that she hates him—she’s just protective of Evelyn. Can’t blame her. They’ve been friends for years."

Dominic’s face was flushed from the wine, but his gaze remained sharp. "Did she eat dinner?"

"Think so. Sophie drove out and got her spicy chicken soup. Evelyn seemed fine when she came down. Must’ve eaten."

Dominic took a slow sip of juice.

Adrian suddenly remembered something. "Oh—she ate a ton of fruit this morning, though. Nothing else. Just fruit. Sophie had it shipped from overseas. I wondered why she ordered so much, but then I saw how happy Evelyn was eating it."

Silence settled between them.

After a moment, Lucas smirked. "Guess she’s really dieting, then. My ex did that—ate nothing but fruit. Wouldn’t touch anything with gluten. Too much sugar."

Adrian tilted his head. "Fruit has sugar too, doesn’t it?"

"Still better than gluten. They count every calorie." Lucas rolled his eyes. "She wasn’t even fat. Just a little soft. But when she found out all my exes were skinny? Went nuts. I dumped her before she starved herself to death."

Adrian hesitated. "So… you think Evelyn’s dieting for… someone?"

Lucas glanced at Dominic’s darkening expression and grinned. "Probably for Eric."

The air turned icy.

Adrian grabbed a wine glass, desperate to lighten the mood. "Lucas, if you’re staying, let’s drink."

"Depends on Dominic. If he leaves, I’m going with him. If not, I’ll stay."

Dominic stood abruptly. "You two enjoy."

Adrian followed him. "Need to rest?"

A low hum was his only answer.

"I’ll show you to the guest room next door." Adrian reached for his arm, but Dominic jerked away.

"Leave me alone."
