Chapter 487

"Then let's track down the surgeon who performed the procedure!" the bodyguard insisted.

"Do you recall the doctor's name?" the hospital director inquired.

"How should I know? She was wearing full surgical gear—mask and cap. I barely caught a glimpse of her face!"

"Perhaps I could question all the obstetricians. Someone might remember Miss Thorne."

Dominic stormed out of the room.

He already had his answer.

Five years ago, Evelyn never went through with the abortion.

Henry Thorne was his son.

But what good did this revelation do now?

Henry would never forgive Dominic for the harm he'd caused.

Evelyn had deliberately kept the children's existence from him—she wouldn't suddenly advocate for him now.

Dominic didn't blame Evelyn.

This was entirely his own doing.

Five years ago, he'd vowed to strangle any child Evelyn bore with his bare hands.

And true to his word, he'd nearly killed his own son.

Dominic's bloodshot eyes glistened with unshed tears.

He slammed the car door, revved the engine, and sped away.

The tires screeched as he pulled up to Mooncrest Manor, parking abruptly before Evelyn's estate.

A crimson BMW caught his attention—likely Sophie Mercer's vehicle.

He jabbed the doorbell.

Within moments, Sophie appeared, holding little Lily's hand.

"Looking for Evelyn? She's not home," Sophie called from behind the gated front yard.

Dominic's gaze dropped to Lily's face.

"Isn't Lily supposed to be in school today?" His voice came out rough, strained.

Lily immediately ducked behind Sophie, peering at him with wide, fearful eyes.

"She wasn't feeling well. I kept her home."

Sophie studied Dominic closely.

Something was terribly wrong.

His demeanor, his voice—everything about him seemed altered, yet his face remained the same.

A chill ran down Sophie's spine. She wanted to examine him further but fear kept her rooted in place.

"Did you need something?" she ventured.

"Did she go to work?" he countered.

Sophie took a tentative step forward and noticed the alarming redness in his eyes.

She froze.

Dare she open the gate? Had he pulled another all-nighter?

Had something triggered another episode? Was he losing his grip again?

Her fingers tightened around Lily's small hand. "She had... errands. I'm not sure of the details."

"Where's Henry?" Dominic asked softly.

"What's going on, Dominic?" Sophie's voice trembled. "I'm calling Evelyn if you don't leave right now."

"Never mind. I was just... passing by."

His expression darkened as he turned to leave.

Three steps away, a sudden buzzing filled his ears.

Then—

Thud.

Dominic collapsed face-first onto the pavement.
