Chapter 305

"One. Two..." Evelyn began counting, her voice icy.

Michael's face turned crimson. "Evelyn! Fine! Deal with your own mess! I'm done with you!"

He spun on his heel and stormed out of the police station.

The biting wind slapped against Michael's face as he stood outside, dialing Nathan with trembling fingers.

"Nathan! Is your boss available? I need to speak with him immediately!" Michael's voice cracked with frustration.

Despite his anger, he couldn't abandon Evelyn. Not when she was in this state. People did reckless things when pushed to the edge.

Today it was Margaret. Tomorrow it might be herself.

"We just started the morning shift. Why are you looking for him?" Nathan's words came rapid-fire before realization dawned. "This is about Evelyn, isn't it?"

"She's completely lost it! Nearly killed Margaret! Now she's sitting in the police station facing charges." Michael's grip tightened on his phone. "Your powerful boss needs to get her out. If he doesn't, I'll expose everything!"

Nathan's curse crackled through the phone. "Have you lost your damn mind? Talk to Mr. Blackwood like that and you'll be on the next flight out of Eldermere!"

Inside the interrogation room, an officer slid a pen and paper across the metal table.

"Miss Thorne, I understand you're upset, but violence isn't the answer." The officer's stern gaze locked onto Evelyn. "Write your confession and cover Mrs. Thorne's medical expenses, and you can walk out of here."

Evelyn's fingers twitched near the pen before she pushed it away with a scoff. "Why should I confess? I meant every hit."

The officer blinked, taken aback.

"Pay her medical bills? Absolutely." Evelyn's lips curled into a dangerous smile. "Right after her funeral."

The officer's mouth opened and closed like a fish out of water.

"Just process the charges," Evelyn said, crossing her arms. Her slender fingers tapped an impatient rhythm against her elbow.

The officer rubbed his temples. "Miss Thorne, we understand your suspicions, but current evidence doesn't implicate Margaret. If we find anything, we'll bring her in immediately."

Evelyn's gaze dropped to her lap. Her pale lips pressed into a thin line.

Her anger wasn't directed at the officer. She hated causing trouble, but the fire in her chest refused to be extinguished.

Letting Margaret walk away unscathed? That was something she could never live with.

Thirty minutes later, a sleek black Rolls-Royce Phantom glided to a stop before the police station.

Michael spotted Dominic emerging and rushed forward, only to be brushed past like invisible.

"Unbelievable!" Michael muttered, watching Dominic's retreating back. "I don't even exist to him!"

Inside, Dominic's sharp eyes immediately found Evelyn's slight frame in the harsh fluorescent light.

"Mr. Blackwood! Thank goodness you're here." The captain gestured urgently. "Please convince Miss Thorne to cooperate. A simple confession and she's free to go."

At the sound of his name, Evelyn's head snapped up. Her breath caught.

Dominic was here? How?

Without a word, he picked up the confession paper, tore it cleanly in half, and tossed the pieces into the trash bin.
