Chapter 429
"Evelyn has some tricks up her sleeves!" Margaret hissed through gritted teeth.
Though Eric Montclair wasn't at the peak of his fame anymore, he had once been an icon. His sudden comeback had sent shockwaves through the entertainment industry!
Margaret couldn’t fathom why Eric would go out of his way to help Evelyn. First, he had publicly supported Thornfield Industries, saving them from disaster.
Now, he had composed an entire song for them? It was absurd!
Her fingers flew across her phone as she dialed Zoe Montgomery. The line connected almost instantly.
"Zoe, do you have any idea why Eric is helping Evelyn? Are they secretly involved?"
Zoe was watching the live stream too, her mood just as sour.
Eric wasn’t just talented—he was devastatingly handsome. Any woman would struggle to resist his charm.
"He already gave us the answer during the live stream," Zoe replied coldly. "He said he met Evelyn when he was ill."
Margaret frowned. "What’s so special about that?"
"He was in a vegetative state back then! People in that condition have no consciousness. Even if Evelyn stood by his bedside every day, he wouldn’t have known her. So, he must have met her after he recovered. And how did he recover? Why is he so devoted to her? Isn’t it obvious?"
Margaret’s breath hitched. "You’re saying Evelyn cured him?"
Zoe clenched her jaw. "Exactly. She must have been the one to bring him back. That’s why he’s repaying her with everything he’s got!"
Suddenly, Margaret burst into laughter.
Zoe stiffened. "What’s so funny? Evelyn has Eric as her trump card now. You should be figuring out how to stop her!"
"Since when did Evelyn become some miracle worker? If she’s that skilled, why bother running a company? She should just open a clinic and rake in millions. Look at you—treating Sophia earned you three hundred million. That’s way more profitable than any business!"
Margaret’s words dripped with skepticism.
Zoe scoffed. "If you don’t believe me, fine. I’m not here to convince you."
"It’s not you I don’t believe," Margaret snapped. "It’s Evelyn. There’s no way she’s that capable!"
Zoe inhaled sharply. "I didn’t want to believe it either. But the facts don’t lie. Denying it only makes me look like a fool."
The smirk on Margaret’s face vanished.
"Scared now?" Zoe taunted when Margaret fell silent. "If I’d known you’d crumble this easily, I wouldn’t have invested a dime in you."
Margaret’s temper flared. "Zoe, you lost to Evelyn. Don’t assume everyone else will too. Just watch!"
Zoe didn’t rise to the bait. Instead, she laughed. "Oh, I’ll be watching. Let’s see how you take her down."
At the Oceanview Grand Hotel, the signing ceremony had just concluded. Under the protection of his security team, Eric slipped into a sleek black sedan.
The fans gathered outside the hotel erupted into screams.
Evelyn trailed behind him, watching the chaotic swarm of admirers. The sheer intensity of their devotion reminded her of the stark divide between celebrities and ordinary people.
Once Eric’s car disappeared, the crowd began to disperse.
Not far away, a black Rolls-Royce sat idling. Inside, Dominic Blackwood’s icy gaze locked onto Evelyn.
She stood in a cream sweater, deep in conversation with Michael Sterling. Michael draped an arm over her shoulders, guiding her toward the parking lot.
The sight twisted something inside Dominic.
Evelyn never lacked for men willing to shield her.
Lucas Grant tightened his grip on the steering wheel, stealing a glance at Dominic’s stony expression. "Dominic, let her go. She’s doing just fine without you."
