Chapter 347

Dominic's mind swirled with fragmented memories, each thought piercing like shards of glass. The pounding in his skull made coherent thinking impossible.

Enough!

Whatever he'd said didn't matter anymore. Evelyn could hear every word if she wanted.

Evelyn felt like a sledgehammer had smashed into her skull. Her consciousness stretched thin, threatening to tear apart.

Though she hated admitting Evelyn's medical skills surpassed hers, the truth was undeniable.

Evelyn was Professor Sebastian's prized protégé! The anonymous surgeon who'd operated on Sophia twice was none other than her. She was the only woman who wanted nothing from Dominic. Others wouldn't be so selfless.

Everything Evelyn had received from Dominic was because of Evelyn's own merits. If Evelyn ever revealed the truth, she'd lose everything in an instant.

Her dominance evaporated. She needed to regain control—fast.

The next morning after breakfast, Evelyn accompanied Eleanor through the moonlit garden.

"Aunt Eleanor, Dominic explained why he broke our engagement during his call yesterday," Evelyn murmured.

Eleanor's face twisted with guilt.

"Do you know where he was yesterday morning?" Evelyn gave a bitter smile. "With Evelyn."

"Oh dear!" Eleanor's brows knitted together.

"Dominic said he still loves Evelyn. That's why he couldn't marry me." Evelyn's eyes glistened. "I've thought about it all night. I don't blame him. I forced this relationship. I'm content carrying his child, and I only want his happiness."

Eleanor hadn't expected such generosity from Evelyn.

"Aunt Eleanor, could you arrange for Evelyn to come? If I ask, she'll refuse." Evelyn lowered her lashes. "I just want to talk. If she treats Dominic well, I'll disappear."

Eleanor couldn't deny such a request.

An hour later, Evelyn arrived at Blackwood Manor against her will. She'd resisted, but Eleanor's authority as Dominic's mother and her seniority left no room for refusal.

Parking outside the grand estate, Evelyn entered the courtyard.

The figure beneath the willow tree could only be Evelyn. Spotting her arrival, Evelyn immediately approached.

"Evelyn, we need to talk!" Evelyn blocked her path. "I asked Aunt Eleanor to invite you."

Evelyn turned to leave, but Evelyn grabbed her wrist with surprising strength.

"Evelyn! You stole my fiancé, yet you can't face me?" Evelyn's laugh held no warmth. "Pathetic, isn't it? Even when Dominic held me at night, he whispered your name. But fate smiled on me—I carry his healthy child, unlike your... defective son."

Evelyn's fists clenched until her knuckles whitened. "What did you call my son?"

"Defective. He attends Willowbrook Academy, doesn't he? If not defective, what would you call him? Even if Dominic acknowledges him, he'll never inherit Blackwood Group. That right belongs to my child!" Evelyn stroked her belly with deliberate provocation.

Rage burned through Evelyn's veins.

Her last shred of reason screamed at her to leave. But Evelyn tightened her grip, trapping her.

"Let go!" Evelyn wrenched free with sudden force.

"Ah!" Evelyn stumbled backward, her spine connecting sharply with the stone bench behind her.
