Chapter 150
A sleek black car pulled up to the grand entrance of the Blackwood estate.
The moment the door opened, a strikingly beautiful face appeared.
"Long time no see, Miss Chamberlain," greeted Mrs. Wilkins warmly.
Bianca offered a practiced smile. "It's been too long, Mrs. Wilkins. Is Dominic home?"
Mrs. Wilkins nodded. "Master Dominic has been expecting you since your call this morning."
Bianca's lips curled in satisfaction.
Just then, another woman stepped out of the car.
"Careful, Miss Montgomery," Bianca said, extending a hand to assist her.
Zoe Montgomery appeared to be in her early thirties, exuding an air of quiet confidence. Her sharp gaze and poised demeanor suggested a woman of intellect—perhaps a scholar or a scientist.
She lifted her chin slightly, taking in the imposing mansion before her.
Her expression remained unreadable.
Mrs. Wilkins didn’t dare pry. Instead, she led the two women inside to the sitting room.
The moment they entered, Dominic rose from his seat.
Bianca had called him earlier that morning, claiming she had located the student Professor Whitmore had mentioned—the one who could assist him.
The news of Dominic being the last person to speak with the late Professor Whitmore had made headlines.
With enough money and influence, it hadn’t been difficult for Bianca to uncover the details of that conversation.
Tracking down Zoe Montgomery, however, had taken considerable effort.
Bianca had gone to great lengths to bring her here—not just to help Dominic, but to secure her own return to his side.
Five years.
That was how long it had been since she’d last seen him.
She had spent those years abroad, building her career, refining her skills—all in hopes of one day being worthy of standing beside him again.
Now, seeing him in person, she was struck by how much more commanding he seemed. His presence was magnetic, his sharp features even more striking than she remembered.
Her eyes stung with unshed emotion.
But Dominic barely spared her a glance. His focus was entirely on Zoe.
"Miss Montgomery," he said, extending his hand.
"Mr. Blackwood," Zoe replied, shaking it firmly.
Dominic gestured for her to sit.
"I’ve reviewed your credentials," he began, his voice measured. "You’re the youngest professor at Mercy Medical Center, correct?"
Bianca watched him intently, but he didn’t so much as glance her way.
Not that it mattered.
Just being near him again was enough.
Still, she couldn’t help but wonder—why was he so invested in finding Professor Whitmore’s student?
Dominic was in perfect health. Eleanor, his mother, was also well.
Who could he possibly be seeking medical expertise for?
Zoe inclined her head. "That’s correct. If you’ve read my file, you’ll know I entered medical school at fifteen. Medicine has been my life’s work."
Dominic nodded. "I’ve arranged accommodations for you. Rest for now. We’ll discuss matters further later."
"Of course," Zoe agreed.
Once she was escorted out, Bianca finally spoke.
"Dominic…"
He turned to her, his expression unreadable.
"Thank you, Bianca. Without your help, finding her would have taken much longer."
Professor Whitmore had countless students, each with impeccable credentials. Narrowing it down had been a challenge.
Bianca smiled. "It was my pleasure." She hesitated, then pressed on. "Dominic… would you consider letting me return to Blackwood Group? I haven’t been idle these past years. I studied abroad, worked in PR—"
She wanted to prove she was more than qualified for a leadership role.
Dominic disliked owing favors, and Bianca had done him a significant one.
He wasn’t thrilled by her request, but he could hardly refuse.
"Very well. But if you return, our relationship remains strictly professional."
The unspoken warning was clear: Keep your distance.
Bianca’s chest tightened, but she nodded.
Before leaving, she ventured one last question.
"Dominic… may I ask who you’re seeking medical help for?" She quickly added, "I don’t mean to pry. I’m just… concerned."
