Chapter 310
Eleanor's face was bathed in an eerie emerald glow.
Had Dominic not been supporting her, she might have collapsed from sheer shock.
The technicians quickly cut power to the LED display, making the disturbing green light disappear instantly.
"What in God's name was that?!" Gregory roared. His voice echoed through the banquet hall. "How could such a disaster appear on screen? What kind of incompetent staff do we have here?"
The event manager rushed forward, sweating profusely. "Our deepest apologies, Mr. Blackwood. Our systems were hacked - we have no explanation for those images."
Gregory shot a concerned glance at his mother.
Eleanor had finally regained her composure, though her hands still trembled slightly.
"Get a new system immediately! I won't tolerate another mistake!" Gregory barked at the cowering manager.
Even after the manager scurried away, the tension on stage remained palpable.
Green wasn't just a color here - it carried devastating implications.
In their world, it symbolized the ultimate betrayal in marriage.
Sophie felt hundreds of eyes burning into her skin.
Her cheeks flushed crimson as she stammered, "I swear I've never betrayed Dominic, Eleanor. The security team can vouch for my every move."
"Are you suggesting I'm the unfaithful one?" Dominic's voice cut through the air like ice.
Sophie shook her head violently. "No! I don't suspect you at all! It must have been a technical glitch... Maybe it didn't mean anything. Let's not read too much into it."
Dominic's lips curled into a dangerous smile. "Is that so? Let's hope no one's trying to send messages then."
"Sophie barely leaves the house! How could she possibly cheat?" Eleanor interjected, desperate to diffuse the situation for the sake of her unborn grandchild.
"Dominic, I have a birthday wish."
A vein pulsed visibly at Dominic's temple.
This woman who claimed to love him most kept forcing him into corners under the guise of affection.
"As a woman who's carried children, I know the struggles. Please treat the mother of your child with more kindness, even just a little... Promise me that?"
Eleanor was publicly backing him into a corner.
Refusing would brand him heartless before all of high society.
"If you care so much about your grandchild, you should wish for a longer life!" Dominic spat before storming off stage.
The entire ballroom froze as if time had stopped.
Suddenly, Julian stood, raising his champagne flute. "A toast to my grandmother's health and longevity! Let's celebrate properly tonight!"
The tense atmosphere gradually eased with Julian's intervention.
Outside, Dominic lit a cigarette, the flame flickering in the night breeze.
Who had orchestrated the green hats and meadow display?
Henry Thorne?
But given Henry's hatred for him, the man would never reveal Sophie's infidelity even if he knew.
Being cheated on was nothing compared to lifelong humiliation.
Besides, hadn't Evelyn confiscated Henry's laptop?
If not Henry, then who?
Though he had no answers, tonight's events had planted seeds of doubt.
Once Sophie delivered, he'd demand an immediate paternity test.
Strangely, the thought of being cheated on didn't upset him.
In fact, he'd be relieved if the child wasn't his. Yet that passionate night five months ago still felt viscerally real in his memory.
