Chapter 491

Evelyn didn't respond to Mrs. Wilkins. She shouldn't have come here. She should have listened to Michael. Sophia had her own phone.

If Evelyn wanted to thank her, a simple phone call to arrange a meeting would have sufficed.

Descending to the ground floor, Evelyn grabbed her bag from the couch.

Just then, a sleek black Rolls-Royce pulled into the driveway.

Dominic was home.

Evelyn's stomach twisted.

Had she left just one minute earlier, she wouldn't have run into him. Her emotions were already in turmoil - she desperately needed solitude to process everything.

"Master Dominic's home, Evelyn!" Mrs. Wilkins announced.

So what? Evelyn lowered her gaze and marched toward the exit, bag in hand.

Dominic had already spotted the Rover parked outside.

Her presence here surprised him.

As he stepped out of the car, his intense gaze followed her exiting the mansion.

Dominic intercepted her path near her vehicle, his heart burning despite the cool night air.

Evelyn reached him quickly. She barely glanced at him before demanding, "Move."

His body tensed. Her foul mood puzzled him.

"Did you come here for something?" Dominic rasped, struggling to maintain composure.

"I came to torture myself," Evelyn answered with bitter sarcasm.

Dominic's eyes flicked to the black Porsche beside Evelyn's car - Zoe's vehicle.

"Sophia's unwell, so I asked Zoe to examine her," he explained. "Did she upset you?"

"What if she did? She's your honored guest while I'm nothing," Evelyn spat coldly, retrieving her keys to unlock the car.

Dominic seized her arm.

"How can you say that, Evelyn? If you're nothing to me, what does that make our child?"

A sharp pang shot through Evelyn's abdomen. Her early pregnancy symptoms had faded, making it easy to forget her condition.

More importantly, she refused to acknowledge any remaining connection between them.

"Did you come to see me?" Dominic pressed when she stayed silent.

"No," Evelyn met his exhausted yet handsome face. "I came for Sophia. But since she's ill, I won't disturb her."

She slid into the driver's seat and buckled up.

Dominic remained outside, his gaze burning into her.

The raw pain in his voice was unmistakable as he said, "What do you want from me, Evelyn? I wouldn't need to beg outsiders if you'd help me."

"Why should I help you?"

Evelyn avoided his eyes, hers already reddening.

"You abandoned us because of your secret with Sophia. Even when I said I felt like an intruder, you never considered my feelings or situation. Why should I help you? You're not the only one suffering in this world. Other people's hearts can shatter too!"

Dominic saw the tears glistening in her eyes. It felt like daggers piercing his chest. "Evelyn, Sophia is my—"

He decided to confess the truth.

Evelyn suddenly looked up, her voice icy. "Stop. Don't tell me. I don't want to hear it!"

Tears finally spilled down her cheeks.

Taking a shuddering breath, she started the engine and sped into the night.

Dominic remained rooted in place, tilting his head back in anguished torment.
