Chapter 106

chapter106

On the other end of the line, the woman paused for a few seconds before replying indifferently, “Okay, I’ll let Mr. Hughes know.”

After hanging up the phone, Natalie frowned. “He didn’t tell me he’s changed his secretary.”

Skylar heard Natalie mumbling and asked, “What’s wrong?”

Natalie smiled. “Nothing. My husband is in a meeting right now, so he couldn’t answer my call. It was his secretary who picked up the phone. It’s a bit strange, though. I wonder why the previous secretary quit; he was doing quite well. Whatever, I don’t usually get involved in his work matters.”

She continued, “It’s a pity I couldn’t get immediate information about the gossip. I’ll ask him when I see him tonight. Then, I’ll share the full story between Joe and Annie with you.”

“Okay, I’ll wait for first-hand news from you,” Skylar replied, smiling.

After that, the two spent the afternoon shopping at the mall. Natalie bought a variety of things, and Skylar picked out some clothes for herself and a set for Janine. They left the mall with their arms full.

Jeremy had sent a chauffeur to pick Natalie up. Skylar made her way to the parking lot after seeing Natalie safely and happily into the car.

Not long after she left the parking lot, she reached a major intersection. While waiting at the traffic light, the car felt slightly stuffy, so she rolled down the window for some fresh air. Suddenly, she felt a gaze on her and turned to the side.

Across the road, Joe was sitting in his car. He was staring at her, looking visibly surprised to see her there. Since her window was down, Skylar could also see Annie sitting beside him.

Annie looked stunning on screen, but in person, she was even more breathtaking. Her features were sharp and elegant, giving her the aura of a sophisticated lady from a prominent family. Annie seemed to sense Joe looking away, and she followed his gaze in Skylar’s direction.

Women often have keen instincts. Annie frowned when she saw Skylar, noticing that Joe had been staring at the woman across the road for an unusually long time while waiting for the light to change.

Skylar swiftly regained her composure and withdrew her gaze, pretending she didn’t know Joe. She was afraid of triggering Annie’s suspicion. When the green light finally lit up, Skylar stepped on the accelerator and sped off as if she were running for her life. If it weren't for the city's speed limits, she would have been long gone from that road in seconds.

After driving for some distance, Skylar felt amused by her own reaction. She was his legal wife, yet she felt a pang of guilt seeing her husband with another woman. But given their covert marriage, they had to maintain a clear, public line between them.

Meanwhile, Caleb rarely visited his grandfather’s workplace. Alexander had been so busy recently that Caleb hadn't been able to get ahold of him. Everyone on Alexander’s team knew Caleb and welcomed him with warm greetings as he walked through the building.

“Where’s my grandpa?” he asked.

“Mr. Gardner Senior is resting on the sixth floor.”

Knowing where Alexander was, Caleb immediately took the elevator to the sixth floor, which housed a quiet lounge area.
